Elena Shmeleva Spoke About Plans for Sirius Development at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum

Head of the Talent and Success Foundation Elena Shmeleva presented the project of building an innovative cluster in the Imereti Valley, signed several partnership agreements and participated in the session on the future development of Russia and the role of science and education in it on the first day of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum

The press briefing opened the Business Programme of the Forum, where Elena Shmeleva talked about plans to help develop the Imereti Valley that include an innovative cluster, as well as Sirius Lyceum.

The scientific cluster in the Imereti Lowlands will include three laboratories: Genetics and Life Sciences, Information Technologies and Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Research in Education, which will occupy some of the Olympic facilities. Both large companies partnering with the Talent and Success Foundation and new companies, including those founded by the Sirius graduates, will create research centres in the area.

Construction of Sirius High School should also be completed this year. Engineering classes for in-depth studies of mathematics, physics, computer science and engineering will open in September.

“This would complete the set of tools that allow us to develop programs for prompt integration of the most successful graduates into real breakthrough projects of our partners as a part of the Science and Technology Development Strategy of the Russian Federation,” said Elena Shmeleva.

Several partnership agreements were signed at the Forum with Yandex, Tinkoff Bank, SIBUR, Rostelecom, NGO Conversion (Rostec), Russian Railways and the National Association for Technology Transfer. Yandex and Tinkoff Bank will open their representative offices in the innovative cluster, develop and test products and software, as well as create jobs and facilitate the employment of the Foundation’s alumni. The agreement with SIBUR aims to jointly identify talented school students, support them, train teachers and promote science. The agreement with Rostelecom provides for cooperation in developing IT talented children and youth. Rostec will participate in developing and introducing educational programs necessary to diversify and grow the share of civilian products in military production. Russian Railways plan to cooperate with the Foundation in setting up an information and technological cluster.

During the session called Technological Breakthrough and Spatial Development of the Country, Elena Shmeleva spoke about single educational environment, developing new projects and technological solutions, as well as their application.

“This model would not only help Sirius develop, but also of the Imereti area and all the participating partners. Most importantly, we will enable children to collaborate at the same place, while studying, researching and implementing. This will allow us to receive almost immediate feedback and create new educational programs,” Elena Shmeleva concluded.
