Governors to present potential of Russia’s regions at business event in Seoul

On October 25, 2017 the business forum “Doing Business in Russia: Regional Opportunities for Korean Business” will be held in Seoul (South Korea).  The forum is organized by the Agency for Strategic Initiatives to Promote New Projects and the Roscongress Foundation, in partnership with the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency, the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Korea International Trade Association.

Welcoming addresses at the event will be offered by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Korea Alexander Timonin, Director General of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives to Promote New Projects Svetlana Chupsheva, President of the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency Jaehong Kim, Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry Yongmaan Park, and Chairman of the Korea International Trade Association Kim In-ho.

Two presentation sessions will describe untapped opportunities for doing business in Russia’s Amur, Kaliningrad, Kaluga, Novgorod, and Sakhalin Regions, in the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, in Khabarovsk Territory, and in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District – Yugra, which will be presented by Governors of the above regions. The presentations will be followed by a series of meetings between the Russian Governors and Korean business community representatives.

The event is expected to become an important instrument for practical implementation of the agreements on building a comprehensive partnership between the two countries, reached by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in on September 6, 2017, at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok.

“Russia continues to be one of the world’s most attractive countries from the perspective of foreign direct investment [FDI] (third place globally for incoming [FDI] in 2016). Russia has moved more than 80 positions up in the World Bank’s ‘Doing Business’ ranking in the last five years, achieving 40th place globally in 2016, with further institutional reforms oriented towards business expected,” the Agency for Strategic Initiatives notes.
