SPIEF Agenda Discussed at Russia – Cyprus Business Forum

The annual Russia – Cyprus Business Forum took place in Limassol on 16 November.

The event was organized by the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Cyprus – Russia Business Association with the support of the Russian Embassy in Cyprus.

Cypriot representatives at the forum included the Minister of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism Yiorgos Lakkotrypis, Deputy Minister of Shipping Natasa Pilides, President of the CCCI Christodoulos Angastiniotis, and President of the Cyprus – Russia Business Association Evgenios Evgeniou. The Russian delegation included Adviser to the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation Georgy Petrov, President of the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vladimir Platonov, and representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, the Roscongress Foundation, Business Russia, and financial, investment, legal, and IT companies.

In his address to forum participants, Adviser to the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation Georgy Petrov emphasized that meetings of this sort made it possible for the business community to discuss issues of importance to interaction between the communities in the two countries and to uncover promising new trends and projects.

Key topics up for discussion in 2018 included the outlook for developing bilateral cooperation in the field of banking and financial services, energy, logistics, the digital economy, and innovation. According to Georgy Petrov, interaction between the two countries is developing in areas that happen to be of prime importance to the world economy and to form the basis of international business event agendas. He noted in particular that the topic of developing the digital economy and innovations was set to be discussed as part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which will be held on 6–8 June 2019.
