The major staple crops, such as wheat, potatoes, maize, rice, etc., account for over half of global food production by tonnage, but with the global population due to climb to 9 billion by 2040, concerns are being voiced as to whether we are prepared to manage our resources to meet future demand. Sustainable use of water, better human capital development in the agricultural sector, improvements in weather resistant strains, and other innovations can have a significant impact on yields, particularly in arid climates. What steps should be taken to better manage agro-industrial resources?
