The Russian Media Industry: A New Twist in the Development of the Market

08 Jun , 12:00–13:15
BRICS Creative Business Forum
Congress Centre, zone E, conference hall E11

The Russian media industry has undergone a number of changes in recent years: major Western advertisers have left the country, and foreign publishers of glossy magazines have pulled their franchises. But this has not stopped the market from developing: new print and online publications are appearing, and telegram channels have reached never-before-seen levels, becoming a uniquely Russian phenomenon and replacing classical media for many people. How are market players faring today? Are they experiencing any financial difficulties? How has the new advertising law affected them? How difficult is it to launch a new media outlet today? What is needed for this? How can we explain the phenomenon of telegram channels? Do they consider themselves full-fledged media and do they follow journalistic ethics?
