The Renaissance of Self-Build
The cities of the future are witnessing two opposing trends: urbanization and deurbanization. According to the former, it is projected that within 30 years, 80% of the Earth’s inhabitants will reside in urban areas, while the latter reflects a growing inclination towards a more tranquil rural lifestyle. It can be definitively concluded that more children are born into families residing in the countryside, away from the urban hustle and bustle. In Russia, deurbanization appears to be gaining momentum, as evidenced by an increasing number of acquaintances opting to move to rural areas. In 2023, the total volume of self-built houses in the Russian Federation reached 60%.
Previously, the self-build sector, particularly in rural villages, operated within a grey area. However, now many large developers have entered this sector, and the government is preparing a new law that will allow self-built projects to be financed “maturely”, using escrow accounts. This session will also address current issues surrounding the provision of housing for orphans and rental housing for families with children.
