Mr. Yasushi Akahoshi became president of JETRO on October 1, 2015. Most recently, he served as Minister of Embassy of Japan in the United States of America for four years (2011-2015), where he was in charge of diplomatic issues related to economy, trade, industry and energy. Mr. Akahoshi began his government service at the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI, later METI after 2001) in 1987. His career spans a wide range of public policy positions focused on international political-economy affairs, including those involving WTO and FTA issues, as well as several principal posts at the Agency for natural Resources and Energy. He was also stationed at JETRO Singapore Centre as Regional Representative of METI for Asia (2004-2007). Mr. Akahoshi is a graduate of the University of Tokyo where he received his LL.B. He also attended the International Career Associate Program at the School of International Relations and Pacific Studies (IR/PS) of the University of California, San Diego. He is married and has two sons.

Mr. Tsuneo Kitamura was appointed as Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry on October, 9, 2015. Most recently, Mr. Kitamura was an Executive on the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defense, House of Councilors. He also served as a Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs Division of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). In 2013, Mr. Kitamura was elected to the House of Councilors for the first time. Prior to elected office, Mr. Kitamura worked as a journalist for SANKEI SHIMBUN CO. LTD. Mr. Kitamura is a graduate of Chuo University’s Faculty of Economics. Noriaki Koyama is Group Executive Vice President of Fast Retailing Co., Ltd. (“Fast Retailing”), a leading global Japanese retail holding company that designs, manufactures and sells clothing under seven main brands: Comptoir des Cotonniers, GU, Helmut Lang, J Brand, Princesse tam.tam, Theory and UNIQLO. Mr. Koyama joined Fast Retailing in May 2014 from the Japan Public Prosecutors Office, where he assumed various positions including Chief Prosecutor for the Nagasaki District, a role he held until April 2014. Prior to the Japan Public Prosecutors Office, Mr. Koyama worked for the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During his time at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he served as First Secretary at the Embassy of Japan in the United States for three years until July 1999. In his current role as Group Executive Vice President of Fast Retailing, Mr. Koyama’s areas of direct responsibility are Human Resources, including the Fast Retailing Management Innovation Center, and Corporate Public Relations.
