Friendly match between the women’s national teams of Russia and France on sabre fencing

The Marble Hall, the main exhibition hall of the Russian Museum of Ethnography in St. Petersburg, will host the event. Friendly match will be held in the form of a team tournament of nine bouts. Two-time Olympic gold medallist Yana Yegorian will captain the Russian team. Sofya Velikaya and Yuliya Gavrilova, 2016 Olympic team events champions, and the European Championship medallist Svetlana Sheveleva are also on the team roster. Manon Brunet, Charlotte Lembach and Cecilia Berder, 2017 World Fencing Championship medallists, as well as Sara Balzer will represent the national team of France. Pavel Kolobkov, Minister of Sport, will open the tournament. The Marble Hall, the central exhibition hall of the Russian Museum of Ethnography in St. Petersburg, will turn into the arena for the match between the world’s top sabre fencers. The day before, on 23 May, the leaders of the Russian national team will host a master-class for young fencers in St. Petersburg.

A return match between the female athletes of Russia and France will be held in Paris in November this year within the framework of International Fencing Federation Congress (FIE).
