Programme

The existing education systems lag far behind the needs of both society and the market. New, more flexible providers of education services are on the rise to fill the gap. Meanwhile, there are innovations taking place within the formal education systems that aim to meet the challenges of the times and improving practices. Specialists involved in the development of education are split over the three-dimensions of education – education as a service, a common good, and a government policy. Another group of actors in this system is becoming increasingly active – state support institutions, funds, education “greenhouses”, and accelerators. How can the education ecosystem evolve and what is the contribution of various actors (teachers, managers, and businessmen)? How can we ensure the integration of new practices into existing educational structures? What support is needed by the start-ups and what kind of projects are investors looking for? Who can serve as an angel investor for education start-ups? Who are the mentors, evangelists, and ambassadors?

Born in Kaluga, Russia, he graduated from Moscow State University.
While studying at university, Andrey Lobanov and his friends created their own advertising agency with an annual turnover of $500,000. During this time, he also participated in a McKinsey business case competition, after which Lobanov worked at the company for almost five years.
In 2016, Andrey Lobanov decided to focus on education and modern technology. That year Algorithmics launched its first courses and a team of 130 people is currently working on this project. The company teaches 40,000 children in 115 cities in 14 countries.

Oksana Oracheva

Oksana Oracheva, General Director of the Foundation since 2014. Prior to joining the Foundation Oksana served as Russia Program Director of the Ford Foundation International Fellowship Program at Moscow office of the Institute of International Education from 2000 till 2010. Oksana was chair of the Governing Council of the Russian Donors Forum in 2015 and 2016. Oksana is a political scientist and has over 20 years of work experience in non-profit sector. Since 1989 she has been teaching different courses on political history and political science. She has written more than 50 scientific publications on federalism, center-periphery relations and good governance. Oksana holds a MSocSc in political science degree of the University of Birmingham, UK and a PhD in political history from Perm State University and did research as a visiting professor at Yale University.

Isak Froumin

Isak Froumin is a Head of the Institute of Education at National Research University “Higher School of Economics” in Moscow (Russia). His responsibilities also include advising the university strategic planning and international cooperation.
Prof. Froumin was leading the World Bank education program in Russia from 1999 to 2011. His World Bank experience also extends to the projects in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Turkmenistan and India.
In 2011 he was co-chair of the education part of the “Russia Strategy 2020” expert group. In 2012 – 2016 he was an advisor to the Minister of Education and Science of Russia Federation and the member of the Russian delegation at OECD Education Policy Committee.
Prof.Froumin is the author of more than 250 publications including articles and books in Russian and English.
His current key research interests are:

University and school governance.

Georgy Solovyov

Graduated from Moscow University of Physics and Technology, the winner of the national olympiad in technology. While studying at the university, worked an engineer at the Institute of Solid State Physics. After graduation George held the post of CEO at an online project Kassa365.ru.
In 2008, George had to learn English for an internship abroad. Since Moscow tutors were out of his budget, George asked a teacher from his hometown of Cheboksary to do classes via Skype. This idea turned out to be a great one, and from that time George’s vision for an online language school was born. In 2012, he recruited his 3 friends, Khariton Matveev, Andrey Yaunzem and Denis Smetnev, to help him realize that vision and create such a school.
In January 2014, the team was joined by Alexander Laryanovsky who had previously held the post of Director of International Development of Yandex In August, Skyeng launched its own platform Vimbox that allows to study English in a virtual classroom efficiently and conveniently. As for now, the solution has no parallel.
