Energy is a crucial part of all economic development and human activity. Growing support for the fight against climate change, the rising production and declining prices of renewable energy, and development of electric vehicles – all of this points to trends and practices that aim to create clean and sustainable energy that is accessible to all. The Russia–Germany business dialogue will focus on current and future projects and on how they together can continue to develop successful energy cooperation to address environmental and climate issues. The climate crisis will define the trajectory of the global economy for the next several decades. What are our odds in this global shift, and what can the Russian and German economies do to achieve more sustainable manufacturing processes, more sustainable consumption, and conserve resources (e.g. recycling, etc.)? What can be done to ensure effective collaboration between businesses, scientists, and the government in developing renewable energy?

Klaus Mangold

Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Knorr-Bremse

Klaus Mangold was born on June 6, 1943. After graduating from high school he studied law and economics at the universities of Munich, Geneva, London, Heidelberg and Mainz.
He held various positions in German industry prior to being a Management Board member and Chairman of the Management Board of Rhodia AG, a subsidiary of the French group Rhône Poulenc, from 1983 to 1990. He was Chairman of the Board of Management of Quelle AG from 1991 to 1994 and joined DaimlerChrysler AG as a Member of the Board of Management in 1995.
As a member of the DaimlerChrysler AG Board of Management from 1995 to 2003, Klaus Mangold was responsible for DaimlerChrysler AG's Services division and its Central and Eastern European markets. At the same time, he was CEO of DaimlerChrysler Services AG.
Klaus Mangold is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of TUI AG, Germany, and member of a number of Supervisory and Advisory Boards, including those of Alstom S.A., France, Ernst & Young, United States, and Continental AG, Germany. He also is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Rothschild GmbH, Frankfurt and Chairman of the “Mangold Consulting GmbH”, which was founded in 2003. From 2000 until 2010 he was Chairman of the Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations of German Industry. He is Commander of the Legion of Honour (France) and Professor of the European Business School, Schloss Reichartshausen.

Alexey Mordashov

Chairman of the Board of Directors, Severstal

Born in 1965, Alexey Mordashov has been working for Severstal since 1988. He started his career as a senior economist, becoming Chief Financial Officer in 1992. In December 1996, he was appointed as Severstal’s Chief Executive Officer. Between 2002 and 2006 he served as CEO of Severstal Group and was Chairman of Severstal’s Board of Directors. Since the introduction of the new structure of corporate governance in December 2006 Mr. Mordashov has been CEO of Severstal. From December 2014 till June 2015 Alexey served as CEO of AO "Severstal Management" - managing organization of PAO Severstal. In May he was elected as Chairman of Severstal’s Board of Directors.

Serves on the Entrepreneurial Council of the Government of Russian Federation. Co-chairman of the “Trade as a Global Driver” Taskforce of the “Business 20” of “Group of Twenty”. Co-chairman of the Northern Dimension Business Council. Vice-President of Russian-German chamber of commerce, member of the Russian-German workgroup responsible for strategic economic and finance issues. Member of the EU-Russia Business Cooperation Council. Alexey earned his undergraduate degree from the Leningrad Institute of Engineering and Economics. He also holds an MBA degree from Newcastle Business School of Northumbria University (UK).

Christian Bruch

President, Chief Executive Officer, Siemens Energy AG

Christian Bruch was born in 1970 in Düsseldorf, Germany. He holds a degree in mechanical engineering (DiplomIngenieur) from Leibniz University of Hanover, Germany, studied at the University of Strathclyde Glasgow, United Kingdom, and received his doctorate in 2001 from the Swiss Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, Switzerland, where he also worked as a project engineer in research between 1997 and 2000. Christian Bruch was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Siemens Energy AG and President and Chief Executive Officer of Siemens Energy Management GmbH effective May 1, 2020. Before he joined Siemens, he worked for more than 15 years at the Linde Group in various positions, from which he resigned in April 2020 when he joined Siemens. From 2019 he was speaker of the Executive Board of Linde AG. Between 2015 and 2018 he was the Executive Board Member responsible for the Engineering Division and the Corporate & Support Function Technology & Innovation and determined the Group’s digitalization topics. Two years earlier, in 2013, he had been appointed member of the Board of Directors of the Engineering Division. In 2009, he moved from Linde’s Gases Division to the Engineering Division, after being appointed as a General Manager of the Air Separation Plants product line. Between 2004 and 2009, Mr. Bruch held several management positions at Linde’s Gases Division. Christian Bruch began his career in 2000 with the RWE Group in Essen, Germany, where he worked first as a project engineer and then starting in 2002 as head of research and project development at RWE Fuel Cells GmbH. Since 2019, Christian Bruch has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Lenzing AG, Austria.

Victor Vekselberg

Born in 1957.
Graduated with honors from the faculty of automation and computer engineering of the Moscow Railway Transport Engineering Institute (MIIT).
In 1990 Viktor Vekselberg founded Renova, an asset management company. Mr. Vekselberg currently holds office as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Renova Group of companies.
In 1996 he founded SUAL Group and served as its President until 2003 when he eventually chaired the Board of Directors of the Group.
Chairman of the Management Board of OJSC Tumen Oil Company from 2002 until 2003. Member of the Board of Directors of TNK-BP from 2003 until 2013.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of United Company Rusal (UC Rusal) from 2007 until March 2012.
In March 2010, Viktor Vekselberg was appointed as Head of the Skolkovo Innovation Center project. Viktor Vekselberg has been President of the Skolkovo Foundation since June 2010.

Rainer Seele

In July 2015, became Chairman of the Management Board and CEO of OMV AG. October 2009 to June 2015: head of Wintershall Holding GmbH in Kassel. Since March 2012: President of the Russian-German Chamber of Commerce. After graduating from the Chemistry Department of Gottingen University and defended his thesis, Reiner first tackled chemical research at BASF in Ludwigshafen. From 1987 to 1994, he held various positions and was then appointed Head of Research Planning and Controlling at BASF’s Main Laboratory. Later, Mr. Seele changed to Wintershall AG where, from 1996 to 2000, he worked first as Head of the Strategic Planning Office. In 2000, he was appointed a board member of Wingas in charges of sales. From 2002 to 2009, as Chairman of the Wingas Management Board, he often spoke to representatives of the general public, making the case specifically for the importance of cooperation with Russia and reliability of Europe’s gas supply. In addition, as a board member of Wintershall AG, Mr. Seele oversaw the Natural Gas Trading and, in October 2009, he stood at the helm of the company’s managing committee.

Klaus-Dieter Maubach

Chief Executive Officer, Uniper SE

Prof. Dr. Klaus-Dieter Maubach is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Uniper since April 2021. Uniper is a leading international energy company with around 12,000 employees and activities in more than 40 countries. With about 35 GW of installed generation capacity, Uniper is among the largest global power generators. Its main activities include power generation in Europe and Russia as well as global energy trading, including a diversified gas portfolio that makes Uniper one of Europe’s leading gas companies. In 2020, Uniper had a gas turnover of more than 220 bcm. As a reliable partner, Uniper also offers municipalities, public utilities, and other industries innovative, CO2-reducing solutions on their way to decarbonizing their businesses. As a pioneer in the field of hydrogen, Uniper is active worldwide along the entire value chain in the hydrogen sector and is implementing various projects to make hydrogen usable as a mainstay of energy supply.
The company is headquartered in Düsseldorf and currently the third-largest listed German utility. Together with its main shareholder Fortum, Uniper is the third-largest producer of CO2-free energy in Europe and, as part of its new strategy, aims to become CO2-neutral in Europe by 2035.
Prior to assuming this position, Klaus-Dieter Maubach was Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Uniper and a member of the Board of Directors of Fortum. In the years before, he held various senior executive positions, including CEO of the Encavis AG, board member of E.ON SE and CEO of E.ON Energie AG. Furthermore, he is a member of the Supervisory Board of ABB Deutschland AG.
Klaus-Dieter Maubach studied electrical engineering at the University of Wuppertal and received his doctorate in 1994 as Dr.-Ing. In 2002 he was appointed as lecturer at the Clausthal University of Technology.

Mario Mehren

Chairman of the Board, Chief Executive Officer, Wintershall Dea GmbH

Mario Mehren is the Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Wintershall. From 2011 until assuming this role in 2015 he was a member of the Board with responsibility for the Russia board department and for exploration and production in Russia, North Africa and South America. He first joined Wintershall as the Head of Finance and Information Management in 2006. Prior to Wintershall Mr. Mehren worked at BASF from 1998 to 2006, where he was successively a specialist adviser in the Corporate Finance department; Head of Finance and Accounting for BASF Schwarzheide GmbH; and Managing Director of Finance and Administration for BASF Chile S.A. Mr. Mehren holds a degree in Business Administration from Saarland University in Saarbrücken, Germany.
Wintershall, based in Kassel, Germany, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of BASF in Ludwigshafen. The company has been active in the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas for over 75 years. Wintershall focuses on selected core regions, where the company has built up a high level of regional and technological expertise. These are Europe, North Africa, South America, as well as Russia and the Middle East. Today the company is Germany's largest producer of crude oil and natural gas.

Dmitriy Pumpyanskiy

Russian businessman, born in 1964, graduated from Kirov Urals Polytechnic Institute in 1986. PhD in Technical Sciences, Doctor of Economics. Authored 4 monographs and over 70 scientific papers.
Heading TMK since 2002, Chairman of the Board of Directors at TMK and Sinara Group since 2005. Formerly held key positions at various Russian metal and pipe companies.
Member of the Management Board of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, member of the Management Board of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, president of Non-Profit Partnership Russian Steel, Сhairman of the Supervisory Committee of Ural Federal University, Board member at Worldsteel and Industry Development Fund.
Mr. Pumpyanskiy was awarded a second class Medal of the Order for Merit to the Fatherland, a forth class Order for Merit to the Fatherland and Order of Honour, is a Russian Government prize winner in Science and Technology, was conferred an Honorary Metallurgist title.

Mikhail Sutyaginskiy

Born on January 1, 1962. Since 1979 has been living and working in Omsk. Education: Omsk Institute of Railroad Transport Engineers (1984); Moscow State University of Economy, Statistics and Informatics (2000).
Mikhail Sutyaginskiy began his labor activity at Omsk petroleum refinery. Since 1989 Mikhail has been carrying on active entrepreneurial business. Mikhail established Group of Companies “Titan”. The company became a leader on regional and Russian petrochemical markets.
In March 2007 - Mikhail became Deputy of Legislative Assembly of the Omsk Region. From 2007 to 2011 –State Duma Deputy of Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the Y convocation, Committee member on Economic Policy and Entrepreneurship.
Mikhail Sutyaginskiy is a member of expert board under the Ministry of Industry and Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, is a member of industrial and regional public organizations.
Mikhail was given various awards for professional and charitable activity, including medal of Saint Seraphim Sarovsky of the 1st degree, Medal "For outstanding achievements" etc.

Stefan Hoops

Head of the Corporate Bank, Deutsche Bank AG

Dr. Stefan Hoops is a Managing Director, Global Head of the Corporate Bank and the Chair of the Corporate Bank Executive Committee.
Stefan Hoops joined Deutsche Bank in Structured Sales in 2003. In 2008 he moved to New York (USA) to join Credit Trading and has since taken on various leadership roles within Global Markets in the United States and Germany, including Global Head of Institutional Sales. In October 2018 he became the Head of Global Transaction Banking (GTB) and the Corporate and Investment Bank (CIB) in Germany. As of July 2019, he is Head of Deutsche Bank’s Corporate Bank which encompasses all corporate and commercial client activities. He is also the Chair of the Corporate Bank Executive Committee.
Stefan Hoops holds a Master of Science in Business Administration and a PhD in Economics from University of Bayreuth.
