SPIEF session: Emerging Economic Hubs: Turkey and Russia

On 3 April 2012 The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum and The Turkish Industry and Business Association, held the joint session “Emerging Economic Hubs: Turkey and Russia and the Rise of Region-omics”. The event was attended by more than 150 representatives of the Turkish and Russian business communities and 30 journalists. The welcoming speech was addressed to the participants by Ümit Boyner, Chairwoman of Turkish Industry and Business Association, Sergei Belyakov, Director of The Department for Investment Policy and Development of Private/Public Partnership at the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, and Vladimir Ivanovsky, Russian Ambassador to Turkey. The event was lead by the anchor of Bloomberg HT, Ozlem Dalga. Discussion participants included Levent Çakıroğlu, Chief Executive Director of Arcelik, Koç Group, Turkey; Dr. Erman Ilıcak, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Renaissance Construction, Turkey; Natalia Khanjenkova, Managing Director of the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Russia; Sergei Nekrasov, First Vice-President of Gazprombank, Russia; and Charles Robertson, Chief Economist, Renaissance Capital.

The participants in the discussion, having noted the high level of economic cooperation between the two countries, discussed the promising direction development is heading in such sectors as trade, finance, energy, construction, tourism, and also touched on the obstacles of running a bilateral business and emphasized the possible measures to eliminate them.
