200 volunteers will participate in the work of the Qatar Pavilion

As part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which will be held on June 2-5, 2021, 200 volunteers will be involved in the work of the official pavilion of Qatar - the Guest Country at SPIEF 2021.

On the eve of the Forum, an online training for volunteers was organized under the aegis of Erasmus+ and Empowering Youth Volunteers Through Sport (EYVOL) programmes, Save the Dream movement, the European Non-Governmental Sports Organisation Youth, and the Qatari-Russian Center for Cooperation (QRCC). At the training, representatives of the organisations shared with volunteers their international experience, including how sports contribute to the effective implementation of inclusive programmes.

One of the priorities of the Qatari-Russian Center for Cooperation (QRCC) is establishing partnerships in the fields of charity, sports and education. At the beginning of 2021, the Qatari-Russian Center for Cooperation signed a cooperation agreement with the International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS), thus reinforcing already existing long-term relations in implementation of various joint projects: from organization and participation in international conferences and youth forums to development of educational and training programmes.

"We consider it fundamentally important that the Qatari-Russian Center for Cooperation is a kind of "bridge" linking the best achievements of Russia and Qatar in various fields, including sports. I am sure that the agreement signed with the International Centre for Sport Security contributes to socio-economic development, international dialogue, and expansion of rights and opportunities for the young generation of our countries. And such platform as SPIEF-2021 is, first of all, a unique experience for socially active young people and an excellent starting point for a career in event volunteering," said Diana Charmadova, General Director of Qatari-Russian Center for Cooperation.

The QRCC and ICSS objectives are closely linked to the main priorities of the Erasmus programme, the European Union Programme to support cooperation in education, training, youth and sport for the period 2014-2020, and its sub-movement Empowering Youth Volunteers Through Sport aimed at developing and implementing innovative educational methods to teach young volunteers how to use sport to promote intercultural dialogue, peace and socio-economic development.

“Save the Dream is always keen to support the efforts of youth leaders and volunteers in carrying out activities that use sport as a tool for social inclusion. This training builds on the experience developed over the past two years through Empowering Youth Volunteers Through Sport (EYVOL), which is a transnational initiative co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union with involvement  of partners from the United Nations Olympic Movement, other sport organisations, academia and civil society. All these stakeholders   work together to develop and implement innovative educational methods to train young volunteers on how to utilise sport to promote inter-cultural dialogue, peace and socio-economic development,” highlighted Carol Jimenez, senior official of multidisciplinary safety, responsible for the Empowering Youth Volunteers Through Sport (EYVOL) project within the Save the Dream movement of the International Centre for Sport Security.

The State of Qatar will participate in SPIEF-2021 as a guest country. The Qatar Pavilion, which will present the economic potential of the Middle Eastern country, will be opened in the Forum area. The Qatari delegation is expected to be amongst the largest business delegations to ever represent the State at global events. It will bring together high-ranking officials, policymakers, business representatives, heads of government and public organisations.
