Delegation of Myanmar to Take Part in SPIEF 2022

Anton Kobyakov, Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation, and U Lwin Oo, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar met in Moscow.

During the meeting, the participants confirmed the intention of the two countries to make maximum use of the accumulated potential for deepening cooperation and opportunities for increasing mutual trade, and also touched the prospect of resuming direct flights between Moscow and Yangon by the end of December 2022.

“The level of trade between Russia and Myanmar is not high enough. However, there are all the prerequisites for the further development of trade and cooperation between our countries. I am confident that the Myanmar delegation’s participation in the 25th jubilee St. Petersburg International Economic Forum and the 7th Eastern Economic Forum will have a positive impact on the further development of relations between the business communities of our countries,” noted Anton Kobyakov, Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation.

Myanmar exports agricultural and fish products to Russia and is also an importer of fertiliser, diesel fuel, petrol and other oil products. The two countries can therefore mutually benefit in this area of trade through closer cooperation. Equally important, Myanmar can offer Russian entrepreneurs and investors investment opportunities in the oil and gas sector; in agricultural and livestock production; infrastructure development; and in renewable energy, IT and communications; healthcare and finance.

A memorandum of cooperation between the Roscongress Foundation and the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar (UMFCCI) was signed in 2018 in order to expand contacts between the business communities of the two countries. Meeting participants also discussed the prolongation of this memorandum at the forthcoming jubilee SPIEF.

“The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is a key event on today’s global agenda. We are planning to come as part of a large delegation to the Forum with the participation of four relevant ministers and business representatives,” stressed Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Lwin Oo.

The 25th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum will take place on 15–18 June 2022.
