Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov and Pakistan’s Minister for Defence Khurram Dastgir Khan co-chaired the 5th meeting of the Russian-Pakistani Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation on 30 November in Moscow.

Denis Manturov expressed confidence that the meeting would give an additional impetus to the strengthening of mutually beneficial trade and economic ties between Russia and Pakistan.

The Russian Minister of Industry and Trade pointed out that Pakistan was an important partner to Russia in various areas of cooperation, including the power industry, oil and gas supplies, aviation and car manufacturing, among others.

An executive meeting took place as part of the Commission’s proceedings. “We comprehensively discussed the outlook and new areas for industrial and technological cooperation and investment partnership. In the sphere of energy, matters relating to the ‘North–South’ project have been worked out. I would like to point out specifically that an agreement on liquefied gas supplies was signed in October – that is the first step towards potentially meeting Pakistan’s natural gas needs going forward. As far as industrial projects are concerned, we have agreed on continued cooperation on important directions in areas where we have joint projects”, Denis Manturov said.

In turn, Pakistan’s Minister of Defence Khurram Dastgir Khan gave a positive assessment of the outlook for expansion of trade and economic cooperation with Russia and for implementation of joint projects.

“We will continue substantive negotiations on a number of sensitive issues over the next two months and I hope that, in the area of trade, we will resolve the gas price issues”, Khurram Dastgir Khan said.

Both sides noted with satisfaction the constructive nature of political contacts between Russia and Pakistan, including, at the highest level, productive cooperation by the two countries in international organizations, and their identical or close approaches to resolving the most urgent matters on the global and regional agendas.

During the meeting, Denis Manturov invited Khurram Dastgir Khan to attend the INNOPROM 2018 international industrial exposition in Ekaterinburg and the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on 24–26 May 2018.
