Experts discuss Novgorod Region development issues as part of offsite SPIEF session

An off-site session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum titled ‘Russia’s Regions: New Areas of Growth’, which was organized by the Roscongress Foundation jointly with the Russian Export Centre and Agency for Strategic Initiatives took place in Veliky Novgorod on May 17, 2017.

The session primarily focused on measures to stimulate the establishment and development of enterprises in the region. Special attention was devoted to the introduction of new technological solutions as well as ways to attract additional investment to the economy of the North-West Federal District.

The event was attended by acting Novgorod Region Governor Andrei Nikitin, Federal Corporation for the Development of Small and Medium-Sized Businesses CEO Alexander Braverman, Roscongress Foundation CEO Alexander Stuglev, Russian Export Center CEO Petr Fradkov, acting Industry Development Fund Director Roman Petrutsa as well as leading Russian experts on investment and representatives of the public and the media.

“After the SPIEF off-site session, our entrepreneurs should take advantage of all the support measures that have been made available to them. For us, it’s very important since the development of Novgorod enterprises is one of the key focuses of our work”, acting Novgorod Region Governor Andrei Nikitin said.

The session also featured master classes devoted to the search for support tools for exports and business as a whole.

“Offsite SPIEF sessions have turned into one of the key elements within the country to promote state measures of support for entrepreneurial development. The Roscongress Foundation is creating essential communications platforms for the country at which key decisions are made and promising projects are conceived”, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation and Executive Secretary of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum Organizing Committee Anton Kobyakov said.

“Today more than 80% of exporters are located in the regions. That’s why working with regional business is an unconditional priority for the REC. In this sense, our main goal during the Roscongress Foundation’s offsite sessions is to involve companies in active export work and, of course, invite them to the largest economic forum in modern Russia – SPIEF since the platform of the St. Petersburg forum is precisely where unlimited opportunities are created for establishing B2B contacts, including with foreign business”, Russian Export Center CEO Petr Fradkov said.

The Veliky Novgorod session continues a cycle of off-site events in the run-up to the next St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which will take place at ExpoForum Convention and Exhibition Centre on June 1–3, 2017 under the theme ‘Achieving a New Balance on the Global Stage’. SPIEF offsite sessions ‘Russia’s Regions: New Areas of Growth’ have been held since December 2015. Events have been held in Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Ekaterinburg, Krasnodar, Tula, Yaroslavl and Ufa, and an event will be held in Perm on May 24, 2017.
