EU and EAEU to continue dialogue on cooperation at First Business Forum in Thessaloniki
The ‘Greek–Eurasian Economic Forum: A New Bridge for Cooperation and Development’ will take place on 11 September 2017 as part of the country’s most important economic event, which has annually been held in the Greek city of Thessaloniki for more than ninety years. The forum will continue to discuss issues related to European and Eurasian integration launched at the panel sessions of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg and the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok.
The Forum in Thessaloniki is the first step towards implementing the provisions of the Joint Declaration on Cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Commission and the Government of the Hellenic Republic dated 24 June 2017, which aims to develop a dialogue between EAEU countries and the Hellenic Republic in the economic sector.
The event will be attended by representatives of major business associations, leading companies and structures that focus on boosting economic cooperation and developing mutual trade between the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union and Greece as well as a delegation of representatives from the governments of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia. China’s participation as an honorary guest at the International Exhibition in Thessaloniki will provide additional opportunities for the EAEU–Greece forum participants to establish new business contacts and expand foreign trade relations.
What prospects do the EAEU and Greece have for developing cooperation? What preferences will business representatives receive from intensifying international cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union and the Hellenic Republic? What are the conditions for entering the EAEU market? These and many other issues will be discussed during plenary sessions and roundtables held at the Forum. Key themes include cooperation in the energy sector, transport services, the development of logistics infrastructure, agricultural and industrial production, and the adaptation of products supplied to EAEU countries to existing and future norms and standards of technical regulation as well as veterinary and phytosanitary control.
The organizers of the event are the Eurasian Economic Commission, the Roscongress Foundation, the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, Enterprise Greece and Helexpo. The forum will be held with the support of the Ministry of Economy and Development of Greece.
The event participants will have the opportunity to continue a dialogue on relevant themes concerning the development of interstate relations in Greater Asia as part of the 10th Eurasian Economic Forum ‘The Art of Innovation’, which will take place in Verona on 19–20 October 2017.
