Europe’s Energy Security to be Discussed at SPIEF 2018

In 2018, SPIEF Business Programme includes over 90 events. The main topic of the upcoming Forum is Building a Trust Economy, which combines economics, digital technology and human capital. The participants will get an opportunity to discuss key objectives that both businesses and society face under the new economic reality.

Under SPIEF 2018 Programme, Nord Stream 2 is scheduled to hold a business breakfast titled Energy for Europe: Reliable Partnership.  Participants will discuss future energy consumption patterns in Europe and strategic advantages of Russian natural gas supply to Europe. The subject matter is highly relevant as the European natural gas markets went through an uneasy period caused by the unforeseen inclement weather conditions last winter. It illustrated Europe’s demand for reliable and substantial supplies of natural gas. Besides, Europe desperately needs natural gas for both economic and environmental reasons: on one hand, to meet the climate change control targets; on the other, to comply with the three key requirements to energy supply: it must be safe, sustainable and cheap.

According to Friedbert Pflüger, Managing Partner of Pflüger International GmbH (Germany), who will moderate the business breakfast, Russia takes leading positions in the global energy market and has a greatest potential in terms of fuel and energy resources. This allows Russia to take up certain obligations to ensure energy security.

“Europe’s concern about energy security must result in consolidated and balanced approaches and a global programme that will help reduce uncertainty and risks for capital investment. This is a complicated process that requires dialog and mutual candour. We hope that Russia will maintain its role of a reliable partner that supplies Europe with energy,” noted Friedbert Pflüger.

The following participants will participate in this business breakfast: Annette Berkhahn Blyhammar, Senior Advisor Energy and Utilities, Arthur D. Little (Sweden); Klaus Schäfer, CEO, Uniper (Germany); Simon Blakey, Senior Associate, Energy Group, IHS Markit (UK) and other leaders of the fuel and energy sector.
