Roscongress Foundation and Vestifinance introduce a new format for discussing current development trends in the Russian economy

The Vestifinance Forum, the first round of open lectures on the economy co-organized by the Roscongress Foundation, which took place on February 22, 2016 in Moscow, was attended by over 300 people. The Russian Direct Investment Fund supported the first Vestifinance Forum.

The Vestifinance Forum’s open venue represents a new community of experts, economists, academics and entrepreneurs to discuss publicly the pressing issues facing the Russian and the global economy and share their perspectives on the future development of the nation’s economy.

The ‘new type’ of lectures was offered in the format of brief presentations made by visiting experts, followed by open conversation. Experts of the first round of lectures entitled ‘Modern Russian Economic Policy’ included Deputy Chairman of Vnesheconombank Executive Board Andrei Klepach, Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director of the Moscow School of Economics Alexander Nekipelov, and Presidential Commissioner for Entrepreneurs’ Rights, Chairman of the Board of the Stolypin Club Boris Titov.

Vestifinance.ru Editor-in-Chief Alexei Bobrovsky opened the Forum saying: “Establishment of a new open venue to discuss alternative economic scenarios for the nation’s development offers a real opportunity to identify effective new mechanisms for responding to today’s global economic challenges.”

The Vestifinance Forum’s participants and audience included business people, financial analysts, economists at Russia’s leading companies and economics students at Russian universities.

In his remarks on the event’s outcome, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation, Deputy Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Eastern Economic Forum, Executive Secretary of the Organizing Committee of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum Anton Kobyakov noted that the chosen format was convenient and effective for discussing urgent economic topics, generating new and groundbreaking ideas and exchanging opinions in this area.

“Creating a ‘new community’ of economic experts to assess current economic trends correctly, respond swiftly to economic challenges and find the most effective ways out of crises is a task of strategic importance for Russia. I believe it would be appropriate to count on young entrepreneurs, academics and economics students, too, by engaging them in active endeavours,” said Anton Kobyakov.

In his opinion, the Vestifinance Forum’s format of a ‘major league’ of experts, economists, academics and entrepreneurs must have a strong potential in terms of economic education of the younger generation.

The next round of lectures in the Vestifinance Forum format will take place in March 2016.
