The current issues related to cooperation between the two countries were discussed by Dmitry Kobylkin, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment and Azhari Abdul-Gadir Abdalla, Minister of Petroleum and Gas of the Republic of Sudan.

In the course of the dialogue, the parties expressed mutual interest in expanding business cooperation and identified priority areas for mutually beneficial partnership. In particular, the details of cooperation in civil aviation, agriculture, exploration and development of mineral deposits have been addressed. It was noted that Russian economic operators are highly interested in establishing the supplies of railway cars and equipment, as well as all-terrain, road construction and agricultural machinery to Sudan.

During the plenary session, the ministers exchanged views on a number of environmental issues, particularly, introducing mercury-free technologies in gold mining in the Republic of Sudan.

In his speech, Dmitry Kobylkin expressed his gratitude to Sudanese and Russian colleagues for productive groundwork and confirmed that Sudan remains Russia’s important trading partner in Africa.

“The Commission aims to implement the agreements that were reached between the leaders of our countries during the visit of the President of Sudan, Mr. Omar al-Bashir, to Moscow on 14 July 2018, which became an important milestone of Russian-Sudanese relations at the current stage. The agreements are our guideline in addressing the issues of strengthening ties in trade and economy, as well as humanitarian ties, on the basis of friendship and mutual respect,” said Dmitry Kobylkin.

In conclusion of the meeting, the Minister invited Sudanese partners to visit Russia more often and noted that the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2019), which will be held on 6–8 June 2019, may become the future platform for dialogue.
