Russian state-owned road construction company Avtodor jointly with the Zvenigorod Historical Architectural and Art Museum will hold a presentation at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum to show off unique archaeological artefacts that were discovered in the Moscow Region during the construction of the Central Ring Road (CRR) transport interchange and also during the reconstruction of the M-1 Belarus federal highway.

The most valuable part of the exhibit will be Russian spherical-shaped helmets from the time of Ivan the Terrible, which were found during excavations in Zvenigorod during the construction of the CRR.

“Archaeologists generally find no more than four such helmets once every hundred years, so the discovery of two such artefacts, which, among other things, are well preserved, is a truly unique case”, Alexei Alexeyev, a researcher at the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said in comments on the discovery.

The exhibit, which will be located in pavilion H near the Governors’ Club, will also present items of personal piety from the 13th–16th centuries (icon pendants, pectoral and baptismal crosses, icons), pieces of marching equipment from the 16th–17th centuries, ornaments, household items, weapons components from the 14th–16th centuries as well as manually and regularly chiselled coins from the 16th–18th centuries.
