Preparations for the 25th World Energy Congress discussed at SPIEF 2021

A meeting between Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation Anton Kobyakov and CEO of the World Energy Council Dr. Angela Wilkinson has taken place at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The meeting saw the discussion of issues related to cooperation between the Government of the Russian Federation and the World Energy Council, including preparations for the 25th World Energy Congress which is set to take place in St. Petersburg in October 2022.

Kobyakov expressed confidence that the Congress will be held at a high level and will prove to be a watershed moment for the global energy sector.

“The World Energy Congress is an important international event, and its significance extends beyond the energy sector. We are carrying out a comprehensive study into every aspect of the Congress. The quality of the business agenda and the value of this event to the global energy sector are especially important to us as the host country, of course, but we are also putting together a fantastic exhibition and an exciting cultural and sports programme. Thousands of participants from around the world will experience the finest hospitality that Russia has to offer in St. Petersburg,” said the Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation. Kobyakov also urged the organizers to ensure that the 25th World Energy Congress generates a wide range of practical outcomes, serious commitments and concrete actions towards long-term development.

Dr. Wilkinson thanked the Russian side for its active role in preparations for the World Energy Congress.

“Our Congress in St. Petersburg will be a landmark event – the World Energy Council and the global energy community will celebrate our centenary. Throughout our history, the World Energy Council has been bringing people and nations together to discuss and solve the most urgent energy issues facing humanity. Today, the energy sector faces a number of real challenges including that of improving the lives of people worldwide while caring for the planet and reducing climate risks. This is why the theme of the Congress is ‘Energy for Humanity’. We must work on the basis of a century of cooperation and make plans for the next 100 years,” Dr. Wilkinson said.
