SPIEF off-site session discusses attracting investment in Ufa

The Roscongress Foundation along with the Agency for Strategic Initiatives and the Russian Export Centre organized an off-site session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in Ufa on May 11, 2017 titled ‘Russia’s Regions: New Areas of Growth’.

The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Bashkortostan and Minister of Land and Property Relations of the Republic of Bashkortostan Yevgeny Guryev, Russian Export Centre CEO Petr Fradkov, Agency for Strategic Initiatives Corporate Director Yelena Myakotnikova, Agency for Technological Development First Deputy CEO Vadim Kulikov, Association of Innovative Regions of Russia Director and Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration Pro-rector Ivan Fedotov, Roscongress Foundation Project Manager and St. Petersburg International Economic Forum Director Alexey Valkov as well as heads of business structures, leading Russian analysts on trade and investment, and media representatives.

The main topic of discussion was attracting investment to the real sector of the Russian economy. Special attention was paid to matters concerning the development of infrastructure projects, the stimulation of high-tech industries, the creation of new jobs, and improving the competitiveness of the Volga Federal District.

A briefing session of the Russian Export Centre was held as part of the event at which the participants discussed problems related to promoting Russian products on external markets.

“The SPIEF’s regional sessions bring together representatives of business, the government, and leading Russian investment experts on a single platform for a substantive discussion of topical issues involving the search for domestic and external sources of investment and effective ways to improve the investment climate in the regions. Such meetings have become a useful and active tool for promoting the effective development of the regions”, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation and Executive Secretary of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum Organizing Committee Anton Kobyakov said.

The meeting in Ufa continues a cycle of off-site events in the run-up to the next St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which will take place on June 1–3, 2017 under the theme ‘Achieving a New Balance on the Global Stage’.

SPIEF offsite sessions ‘Russia’s Regions: New Areas of Growth’ have been held since December 2015 in different Russian cities – Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg, Krasnodar, and Tula. In addition, SPIEF off-site sessions are also planned in Perm and Veliky Novgorod in May.
