Russia’s New Areas of Growth: the Future Belongs to Mono-Industry Cities

The “Russian Regions: New Areas of Growth” field session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum will be held on May 24, 2017 in Perm. The session is organized by Roscongress jointly with the Agency for Strategic Initiatives and the Russian Export Centre.

The event will focus mainly on the development prospects for the mono-industry city of Chusovoy and the Advanced Special Economic Zone (ASEZ) in the Perm Territory. The city has succeeded in obtaining a special status involving special governance, reduced tax rates and special conditions offered to residents. At the “Advanced Special Social and Economic Zone of the city of Chusovoy” presentation session, the SPIEF field session’s participants will learn how to obtain resident status, about manufacturing sites and about the options for attracting a workforce.

The field session in Perm will also concentrate on raising investments and make efficient use of the tools offered by the state and by development institutions. Experts from the Russian Export Centre will hold a briefing session on promoting Russian-made commodities on foreign markets and on implementing a comprehensive approach to providing services for exporters. A Plenary Session will also be held; Maxim Reshetnikov, Acting Governor of Perm Territory, Svetlana Chupsheva, General Director of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives, Alexander Stuglev, CEO of the Roscongress Foundation, local officials, heads of businesses and leading Russian experts will be among the participants.

The Perm session continues the series of field events held prior to the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The “Russian Regions as Seen by Investors” session will summarise the results of regional economic development; Maxim Reshetnikov, Acting Governor of Perm Territory, will participate in the session.

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum will be held on June 1–3, 2017 in St. Petersburg. This year, the Forum events will be held under the “Achieving a New Balance in the Global Economic Arena” motto.
