Opportunities for Turkish Business: Prospects for Russia-Turkey Business Cooperation to be Discussed in Istanbul

Istanbul will host an offsite session organized by the Roscongress Foundation, focusing on Russian business ecosystem for Turkish businesses.

On December 10, 2024, the session on promoting Russian business and investment potential in Turkey will bring together business representatives, trade associations, media, and government officials from both countries. Participants will explore new avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation and expanding trade and economic ties. The event aims not only to familiarize attendees with existing mechanisms supporting Russian and international company collaborations but also to consider new approaches to overcome challenges amid the global economic transformation.

“Turkey has been a longstanding partner for Russia in key sectors such as agriculture, metallurgy, and energy. Russian companies are actively involved in major Turkish projects, including the construction of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant. Through the Roscongress Foundation, we have also fostered collaboration: in 2022, we signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Russian-Turkish Business House ROST, and in 2023, we partnered with Turkish company Discover Events, which facilitates local business participation in international events. Additionally, the Foundation works closely with the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey (DEIK),” said Chairman and CEO of the Roscongress Foundation Alexander Stuglev.

The Roscongress Foundation has previously held two offsite sessions in Turkey under the aegis of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). Since their launch in 2022, these sessions have become effective tools for fostering partnerships, attracting over 600 business representatives from 10 countries.

“We are all witnessing a pivotal stage in the development of the global economy. New operational conditions are emerging, and they are far from simple due to illegitimate sanctions against our country. However, there is potential and natural opportunities for expanding Russia-Turkey cooperation within this evolving new framework. Events like the Roscongress Foundation offsite session in Istanbul allow us to gather, discuss pressing issues and possible solutions, and exchange ideas for future collaboration,” noted Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Turkey Alexey Yerkhov.

Turkish businesses will be introduced to the Roscongress Foundation ecosystem for international partners, including SPIEF, the Eastern Economic Forum, and the Russian Tourism Forum "Let’s Travel!" Participants will also learn about the opportunities provided by Russian business and government institutions to enhance bilateral cooperation. The session will showcase recent initiatives and projects aimed at strengthening international collaboration and boosting investment appeal of Russia.

A key highlight will be the presentation of SPIEF 2025, an international platform for discussing global economic issues.

“The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is an ideal entry point for foreign companies looking to start or expand their business in Russia. Participation in the forum offers a unique opportunity to connect with representatives of federal ministries, regional authorities, and leading companies across various industries. We strive to create all the necessary conditions for productive engagement and achieving business goals, fostering long-term partnerships and mutually beneficial agreements,” said Deputy Director of the Roscongress Foundation and Director of SPIEF Alexey Valkov.

The program will also include a B2B session, "Opportunities for Russia-Turkey Business Cooperation," where Turkish businesses, Russian organizations, and government representatives will discuss trends and opportunities for expanding collaboration between the two nations. Participants will include the Russian Trade Mission and Embassy in Turkey, the Russian Export Center, Opora Russia, Business Russia, the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation.
