“The Russia–EU relationship will also be discussed at a special panel to be organised by the Valdai Discussion Club, as part of St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. We expect top-ranked officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take part in this special panel, so the topic of the Russia–EU relationship will be very prominent on the agenda of the upcoming Forum,” Mr. Peskov told journalists on Monday.

He pointed out that there would be many guests, including businesspeople. “Chief executives of some companies already operating on the Russian market and those who are only eyeing it up have already applied to participate. As regards public officials at the top and summit level, I’d rather not run ahead – this would not be quite correct from the protocol perspective, since such statements are usually made in step,” the press secretary of the head of state explained.

Mr. Peskov added that it was now possible to assert with confidence that the St. Petersburg Forum was one of “the world’s main forums, an international economic venue with a very good background.”

“This is always a wonderful opportunity to synchronise watches with representatives of overseas business so that our entrepreneurs might also use this platform for establishing new connections and, most important, to provide foreign investors and partners with first-hand information about this country,” he stated.

In 2016, SPIEF celebrates its 20th anniversary. The Forum will be held in St. Petersburg from 16 to 18 June.
