SPIEF 2022: Russia and Serbia to Continue Dialogue

Adviser to the Russian President Anton Kobyakov held a meeting in Moscow with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Serbia to the Russian Federation Momcilo Babic. The meeting focused on the development of comprehensive cooperation between the two countries as well as a Serbian delegation’s participation in the 25th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum and other key business events taking place in Russia.

“Russia and Serbia traditionally maintain an active political dialogue that covers a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation and the international agenda. In the current international situation, Serbia did not support anti-Russian sanctions, thereby showing its friendly position. Russia and Serbia are fraternal peoples. We have a common history. We are united by a kindred culture and mentality, and, of course, Orthodox traditions. It is our duty to preserve this historical memory,” Kobyakov said.

The two officials also discussed the bilateral trade and economic cooperation that is actively developing between Russia and Serbia, including the latter’s plans to take part in the events of the upcoming SPIEF 2022.

“The Serbian people gladly enjoy coming to Russia’s cultural capital of St. Petersburg, including to take part in business events. At present, a delegation is being formed to participate in the SPIEF 2022. We are not only interested in strengthening trade and economic relations, but also want to develop cultural interaction, including opening a Serbian cultural centre in Moscow, as well as honorary consulates of Serbia in the Russian Federation,” Babic said. In an effort to develop intercultural communication, the regions of both countries also plan to expand cooperation, including by increasing the number of sister cities.

Kobyakov and Babic also discussed the development of information partnership, specifically the signing of cooperation agreements between the Roscongress Foundation and Serbia’s leading media outlets.

In addition, Kobyakov invited representatives of Serbia to take part in the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum and the Eastern Economic Forum.

The 25th anniversary St. Petersburg International Economic Forum will be held on 15–18 June 2022.
