Regional Cooperation between Russia and China. What's next?

Opening day of SPIEF 2019 on 5 June saw the ‘Regional Cooperation between Russia and China. What's Next?’ panel session.

Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation Sergei Glazyev believes that “corridors and not just transit need to be built as part of the development strategy for transport infrastructure. The concept of a strategy of this sort must include development through supranational consortia”. He also noted that “Russia lacks a strategic planning system, and this greatly complicates cooperation in the implementation strategic projects between cultures and states. Supranational consortia can level out differences in economic mechanisms and ensure their closer coupling. Regional cooperation between Russia and China is most effective for implementing local projects, and this may be the beginning of a breakthrough on the whole. Technological pipelines must work successfully for the benefit of our countries. Entrepreneurial initiatives need to find support at all levels”.

Panellists spoke about various aspects of Russian-Chinese cooperation and its outlook. In particular, this is the Chinese Business House’s third year of active and successful work at Lenexpo, and Chinese companies are regular participants at various exhibitions, forums, and business events.

Valentina Larionova, President of the Schwartz Association of Specialists in Molecular Medicine and Experimental and Medical Genetics and Research Director at the Academy of Molecular Medicine, spoke about genomic technologies and plans to create an International Center for Personalized Medicine with Chinese partners.

Jason Cao, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Messe Frankfurt Ltd (Shanghai)  called on all participants to fight for the preservation of stability in the world for the successful development of business partnerships and the promotion of the One Belt, One Road Initiative.
