Rospatent to organize panel session at SPIEF

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) officially opens in St. Petersburg on June 1, 2017. Just like previous Forums, this year it will be a leading global platform for communication among statesmen and businessmen from all over the world who will discuss key economic issues facing Russia, emerging markets, and the world as a whole.

On the first day of the Forum, the Russian Federal Service for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks (Rospatent) will organize a panel session devoted to changes in the economic and intellectual property (IP) sphere taking into account the development of digital technologies. At the roundtable ‘Innovative Development and Protecting Intellectual Property in the Digital Economy’ panellists will discuss the legal regulation of IP in a new environment, tools and levels of protection for intellectual property rights, and global information verification tools to prevent violations of rights. Rospatent Director Grigory Ivliyev will present a report titled ‘Digital Economy and the Development of the Intellectual Property Sphere: Objectives for Russia’.

The event will take place on June 1, 2017 at 09:00 in conference hall D4 at the Congress Centre. The event will be broadcast live on the website of the Forum, Rospatent, and subordinate institutions – the Federal Institute of Industrial Property (FIIP) and the Russian State Academy of Intellectual Property (RSAIP).

Rospatent will also sign a number of key agreements at the Forum with development institutions, financial structures, the government authorities of Russia’s regions as well as the Indian Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.

Rospatent and the Government of the Murmansk Region will also sign a cooperation agreement on June 1, 2017 at 12:00. The document will be signed by Rospatent Director Grigory Ivliyev and Murmansk Region Governor Marina Kovtun. The signing ceremony will take place at a joint booth of Rospatent and the Russian Export Centre in pavilion G of the Congress Centre. The agreement will describe the basis for cooperation and interaction to develop inventive, patent-licensing, and innovative activities in the region as well as projects for the commercialization of intellectual property.

Rosatom and the Administration of the Nenets Autonomous District will sign a cooperation agreement on June 1, 2017 at 14:00 at the joint booth of Rospatent and the Russian Export Centre. The document, which will be signed by Nenets Autonomous District Governor Igor Koshinand Rospatent Director Grigory Ivliyev, will describe the priority areas for joint work by the agency and region to develop intellectual property in the district.

A cooperation agreement between Rospatent and Gazprombank will be an important document for the development of the intellectual property sector in Russia. Upon signing the document, the state agency and one of the leaders on the country’s banking market will begin formulating joint approaches to the ability to use modern financial tools for the turnover of intangible assets. Gazprombank is also interested in the broad application of Rospatent’s analytical products and services: industry patent landscapes, tools for monitoring innovative projects, and the prospects of R&D to increase the efficiency of the bank’s activities. The signing will take place on June 2 at 11:30 at the Gazprombank booth (pavilion F1).

Rospatent will also sign an agreement with the Association of Innovative Regions of Russia (AIRR). The document will make it possible to coordinate the activities of the two structures for the development of regional programmes in the intellectual property sector of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation and to work together to create infrastructure for the commercialization of intellectual property and the protection of intellectual property rights, including technology and innovation support centres (TISC), technology transfer centres, and mediation centres. Rospatent and the AIRR will also contribute to the development of the insurance market in matters concerning intellectual property, lending based on the pledge of intellectual property, and its valuation. Rospatent Director Grigory Ivliyev and AIRRDirector Ivan Fedotov will sign the agreement at the AIRR booth (Pavilion H, Booth 19) on June 2, 2017 at 12:00.

Rospatent Director Grigory Ivliyev and General Director of the Indian Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and Secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research of the Government of India Girish Sahni will sign an agreement on access to India’s Traditional Knowledge Digital Library at Konstantin Palace on June 1, 2017 at 16:45. Upon signing the document, Rospatent will have free access to the library’s archives for three years to use documents it contains in patent searches and patent research.

Rospatent and the Russian Export Centre will also have a joint information booth at the Forum where SPIEF participants will be able to receive advice on all state services provided by Rospatent as well as obtain foreign patenting brochures for exporters that were issued under a joint project of the Russian Export Centre, Rospatent, and the Russian State Academy of Intellectual Property. The booth is located in pavilion G in the Congress Centre.
