Russia-Iraq intergovernmental commission: New steps towards expanding bilateral partnership
The 10th meeting of the Russia–Iraq Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, and Scientific-Technical Cooperation was held in Baghdad, where key issues related to deepening collaboration across various economic sectors were discussed.
The meeting was attended by representatives of relevant ministries and agencies from both Russia and Iraq, as well as business circles from both countries. The parties reviewed developments in cooperation across energy, industry, high tech and other strategically important areas. The high potential for bilateral collaboration and a mutual willingness to expand joint projects were highlighted.
The chairman of the Russian side of the Intergovernmental Commission, Russian Minister of Energy Sergey Tsivilev, emphasized the importance of Iraq’s participation in major international economic forums, which serve as key platforms for establishing business contacts. In this regard, he invited the Iraqi side to take part in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), scheduled for 18–21 June 2025.
“SPIEF is one of the world’s leading platforms where key economic trends are shaped and prospects for international cooperation are discussed. Iraq’s participation in the Forum will help strengthen dialogue between our countries, establish new partnerships, and define future areas of collaboration,” said Sergey Tsivilev.
Iraqi delegations have traditionally played an active role in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. SPIEF 2025 is expected to create new opportunities for the implementation of joint projects and the attraction of investment.
