Russia House in Davos Cancelled

The Roscongress Foundation has stopped preparing business programme events for the Russia House project in Davos due to the restrictions imposed on participation of Russian businessmen in the World Economic Forum.

On 13 November Dmitry Medvedev made the first announcement that Russian public officials and parastatal companies may refrain from participating in the World Economic Forum in Davos. This statement was made in response to the organizers of the Forum in Davos pronouncing participation of Russia’s most important business people in the WEF unwelcome. By making this decision the WEF organizers resort to preposterous and destructive excuses to undermine foundations for business cooperation, which took them decades to forge. These disputes cannot be conducive to building a platform for efficient and fruitful dialogue between representatives of different countries in Davos.

Amidst the preparation for the project, the Roscongress Foundation’s staff spoke to many members of the Russian and international business communities, who expressed their concern regarding evident pretentiousness of the WEF leadership, therefore they didn’t plan to attend the World Economic Forum.

Despite this, global economy and its impact will be discussed during the St Petersburg International Economic Forum in 2019, which will take place on 6–8 June in St Petersburg and is expected to host representatives of all countries regardless of their political views.
