Russia to host the Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit 2019
In 2019, Russia will host Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit (GMIS2019). The announcement was made at the Saint Petersburg Economic Forum. During the plenary session, the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin outlined a strategic task to create high-performance manufacturing sector aimed at expanding the export of competitive Russian products. The president pointed out that in this regard hosting GMIS 2019 in Yekaterinburg becomes a signature event.
“I invite the audience to attend the second edition of the Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation summit which will be held in the Ural region in the city of Yekaterinburg,” said President Putin.
Earlier this day, a Memorandum of Understanding for hosting the Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit (GMIS) in 2019 in the Russian Federation was signed at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The signatories were Denis Manturov, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation; Suhail Mohammed Faraj Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Industry of the United Arab Emirates; Hiroshi Kuniyoshi, Deputy to the Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO); Badr Al Olama, Head of the GMIS Organizing Committee; Evgeny Kuyvashev, Governor of Sverdlovsk Region and Alexander Stuglev, CEO of the Roscongress Foundation, Chairman of the Board and CEO of the Roscongress Foundation.
GMIS 2019 will be staged in conjunction with the 10th International Industrial Trade Fair (INNOPROM-2019) in Yekaterinburg. The theme of the 2019 Summit in Russia – one of the world’s biggest manufacturing powerhouses – will be ‘nature-like technologies’, otherwise known as biomimetic design and biomimicry. By drawing from the natural world in order to come up with solutions to specific challenges, scientists and engineers have successfully developed some of the world’s most landmark inventions. GMIS 2019 will promote the importance of utilizing strategies and designs created by nature to bring innovative solutions and sustainable design together in a way few other fields can.
A joint initiative by the United Arab Emirates and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit bridges the gap between manufacturers, governments, NGOs, technologists, and investors in harnessing the Fourth Industrial Revolution’s transformation of manufacturing, to enable the regeneration of the global economy. Uniting key stakeholders – including world leaders, industry CEOs, and specialist researchers and academics – the Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit has placed manufacturing at the heart of economic transformation and government policy-making, promoting it as a tool for global cooperation and collaboration, and is committed to ensuring the sector supports the objectives of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
