SPIEF 2018 cultural programme announced

In addition to a packed schedule of business events, participants at this year’s St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which will take place on 24–26 May, will be able to enjoy a rich cultural programme.

On 23 May, the Mikhailovsky Theatre will host a gala concert in aid of the fight against cancer, while world-famous pianist Mira Yevtich will perform at a charity evening at the Fabergé Museum together with the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra conducted by maestro Valery Gergiev. Elsewhere, the Armorial Hall of the Winter Palace will host a concert entitled “Outstanding Voice of the 21st Century,” which will mark the opening of the St. Petersburg Palaces International Music Festival.

On 24 May, the AUN J CLASSIC ORCHESTRA from Japan will perform in the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre – one of numerous events marking a year of cultural exchanges between Russia and Japan. Meanwhile, the official opening of a new exhibition entitled “Space: A Human History” will take place at KGallery, and the Metropole complex will provide Forum participants the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge in the intellectual quiz “What? Where? When?”

On the same day a reception featuring pianist Boris Berezovsky will be held in the Mikhailovsky Theatre. 

On 25 May, the Presidential Library will host a charity gala concert featuring Mariinsky Theatre soloist and People’s Artist of Russia Vladimir Galuzin, winners of the Elena Obraztsova International Competition of Young Vocalists, and renowned cellist and People’s Artist of Russia Sergei Roldugin. The day will also see several performances at the Mariinsky Theatre’s numerous stages. Turin’s Teatro Regio choir will perform at the Concert Hall, the Dresden State Capella will appear on the New Stage together with illustrious pianist Denis Matsuev, and the Main Stage will host a gala concert marking the 200th anniversary of the birth of Marius Petipa.

The Hermitage Museum will present an exhibition 'Innovation as an artistical device'.

An official event for SPIEF 2018 participants and guests, hosted by the Governor of St. Petersburg, will be held on Palace Square on 26 May, and will close with the “Classics on Palace Square” gala concert.

During the Forum, participants will be able to visit the best museums in and around the city upon presentation of their badge.

A number of events are also planned to celebrate the 315th anniversary of the founding of St. Petersburg. These include a carnival procession held as part of the inaugural St. Petersburg International Festival of Circus Art, the St. Petersburg International Vintage Vehicle Parade, a parade featuring brass bands and percussion ensembles, the “Singing Bridges” light and music show, and a fireworks display.

“The rich cultural programme for this year’s Forum features a large number of eye-catching and noteworthy events, with several benefitting charitable causes. I hope they will provide Forum participants and guests with a myriad of enjoyable, and indeed unforgettable experiences,” said Anton Kobyakov, Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation and Executive Secretary of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum Organizing Committee.
