SPIEF Sport Week Published
The sporting programme of the 25th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum will be held under a new brand – SPIEF Sport Week – and will cover events in 10 different disciplines.
"The Roscongress Foundation had put together the SPIEF Sport Week programme in cooperation with the Ministry of Sports and various sports federations taking into account the challenges of the new reality. The Forum will present new competition formats for the leaders of Russian national teams, including those with foreign competitors. Additionally, the programme incorporates a sizeable line-up of events aimed at the development of mass and corporate sports, as well as healthy lifestyle promotion. Dialogue about the development of sports under sanctions will be continued in the business programme," said Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation, Executive Secretary of the SPIEF Organizing Committee.
The morning SPIEF Run, which returns to the programme after the pandemic, will open the Forum. The 5 km track runs through the historical centre of St. Petersburg. SPIEF participants, celebrated athletes, artists, and residents of St. Petersburg will have the unique opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the Northern Capital on a run in an exclusive car-free environment. Roscongress Foundation and League of Heroes co-organize the event with support of the All-Russian Track and Field Federation.
SPIEF 2022 will host the first stage of the Victory Cup in boxing, a new series of team tournaments, which will culminate with a final held in July on the Red Square in Moscow. Olympic champion Albert Batyrgaziev and other leaders of the Russian national team will enter the ring as part of the teams representing various federal districts. "We came up with this format to replace the World Cup. I am sure that a spectacular team tournament featuring the top Russian teams will be interesting both to the global boxing audiences and the Forum participants. Integration in SPIEF opens up new opportunities for interaction with business. It is strategically important for boxing and the entire sporting community," said Tatiana Kirienko, Secretary General of the Russian Boxing Federation. Kostya Tszyu, Alexander Povetkin, and other boxing legends will hold master classes for St. Petersburg boys and girls as part of the SPIEF tournament.
Last year the team judo cup Yavara Challenge debuted at SPIEF. This time Yavara-Neva, the 8-times winner of the European club championship, and Lokomotiv will meet with foreign opponents at the tournament. Also, the 10thanniversary youth judo tournament in memory of the outstanding coach Anatoly Rakhlin is expected to be held in an international format. The martial arts line-up at SPIEF Sport Week will be continued by the White Nights 2022 aikido festival.
Participants will be able to recharge at the traditional Roscongress Cup gala matches in hockey and basketball. The hockey game will be dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Russian hockey, in which the leaders of politics and business will take to the ice again. Their meeting on the basketball court will be supported by Zenit. Players and coaches from one of Europe's top basketball clubs will be joining the teams made up of the Forum participants.
The final day of SPIEF 2022 will be especially packed with sporting events. The second of the four stages of the Vedomosti sailing business regatta will be held in the setting of the famous Kronshtadt forts. Corporate teams, including the Roscongress Foundation crew, will compete on mX700 class yachts. The business regatta together with the parade of historical sailing ships and the reconstruction of the battle led by Peter the Great will be a part of the music, sports and gastronomic festival entitled The Sails of Kronshtadt.
Traditionally, equestrian sport will be present at SPIEF. In addition to the spectacular and exciting showjumping, dressage, the queen of equestrian sport, will make its debut at the Roscongress Cup tournament. Four tournaments in dressage and show jumping will fill the SPIEF sporting programme with grace and aesthetics.
The Roscongress Cup. White Nights tennis tournament will be held in doubles on the courts of the Razliv sports complex located on the shores of the eponymous lake. For the fourth time the Peterhof Golf Club will host the Roscongress Golf Cup tournament, which is taking place at the initiative of the Golf Association of Russia. The golf tournament programme will traditionally include master classes, business brunch and an entertainment programme for the guests. One more golf tournament entitled Radio Monte Carlo Golf Cup will precede the main SPIEF Sport Week programme. The event will take place 4 June at Moscow's Agalarov Golf & Country Club and will combine a sports component, a concert by Russian stars, as well as discussions on the experience economy and the impact of music, sailing, and golf tourism on the development of territories.
A good reason to come to SPIEF a little earlier is the White Nights marathon, which will be held in St. Petersburg on 11 June. Thanks to the evening format participants will be able to show high results and enjoy the beauty of the very white nights that gave the name to the race.
