International Sailing Tournament to Take Place at SPIEF
Yachtsmen from Russia, Belarus, Serbia and Germany will take part in the regatta named after Igor Chentsov, Chairman of the Presidium, First Vice President of the All-Russian Sailing Federation, which is included in the programme of the Sport Games of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The competition will take place from 30 May to 2 June at the Pestovo Yacht Club in Moscow Region.
The Chentsov Regatta will open the Tenzor International Cup series, which is dedicated to the memory of outstanding people in sailing.
“SPIEF has already hosted international tournaments among club teams in judo, boxing and cycling. Sailing has expanded the range of these opportunities. I would like to note the quality work of the organizers in interacting with foreign colleagues. It is important that Igor Chentsov’s name continues to work for the Russian sailing sport,” said Georgy Bryusov, CEO of the Centre for Athletic Training of Russian National Teams and member of the Roscongress Foundation Supervisory Board.
One of the favourites of the tournament and the whole series will be the Serbian team ZID art Sailing Team, which will feature Zoran Paunovic from Serbia, Dustin Baldewein from Germany and Andrey Kirilyuk and Daniil Banayan from Russia.
“Carrying the flag and representing who you are is as important as carrying your name. One must never forget the roots without which one ceases to be oneself,” said Zoran Paunovic, helmsman and captain of ZID art Sailing Team.
Belarusian yachtsmen will compete in the regatta in three teams. Winners of multiple awards, Masters of Sport of International Class Daniil Odintsov and Sergey Desyukevich will represent Tenzor Team and Skolkovo SailingTeam-3 crews, and Ilya Strakh, a multiple participant and winner of international regattas, has been an irreplaceable helmsman of PAVETRA team for many years.
“Participation of foreign yachtsmen and teams in sailing competitions held in Russia is a great contribution to the future. Regattas such as the Tenzor International Cup help Russian and Belarusian athletes to maintain a high sporting level and keep them ready to be competitive in world sailing races,” said Daniil Odintsov.
The first stage of the project is supported by the All-Russian Sailing Federation, the Roscongress Foundation and the Russian National Team Sports Training Centre.
The Tenzor International Cup series will combine four stages to be held from June to November in Pestovo near Moscow and Sochi. The total prize fund of the tournament will amount to RUB 2 million.
