Russian-Croatian Intergovernmental Commission members invited to attend SPIEF 2018

Russian-Croatian Intergovernmental Commission members invited to attend SPIEF 2018

The Russian-Croatian economic cooperation potential is far from exhausted, and both nations have to undertake new projects, said Russian Minister for Emergency Situations Vladimir Puchkov, who co-chairs the Russian-Croatian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation.

“I am confident that the potential for bilateral cooperation is far from exhausted. I believe I can speak for everyone that we need to diversify our trade and identify new mutually beneficial projects and promising areas for cooperation. We can do that”, Vladimir Puchkov told a meeting of the 7th session of the Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) on Tuesday.

The Minister noted that Croatia was an important trading and economic partner for Russia in the Balkans.

“The economic dialogue between our two nations is most actively developing in the areas of energy, banking services, shipbuilding, automaking and in a number of other areas”, he said, recalling that the previous full-fledged IGC meeting took place in Zagreb in 2010, followed by an expanded meeting of its Co-Chairmen in 2015.

“At that Co-Chairmen meeting we agreed to set up a tourism working group as part of the IGC. Today we will formally establish its status as a working group in the IGC minutes”, Minister Puchkov said.

He added that cooperation on science and technology and education was another important area for bilateral cooperation.

“Just recently, on 26 September, experts on education and science from both countries met in Zagreb. The meeting resulted in a proposal to set up a relevant working group as part of the IGC. I believe this initiative should be supported. We will incorporate this arrangement into the IGC minutes today”, he said.

“I believe that today’s event will help us get on the same page as far as the key areas and current projects on the bilateral agenda are concerned, and set out new future areas for our efforts. This is rather important ahead of the visit of Croatia’s President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović scheduled for October”, the Russian Minister said in conclusion.

The Russian Minister for Civil Defense, Emergency Situations and Liquidation of Consequences of Natural Disasters Vladimir Puchkov also invited the participants in the meeting of the Russian-Croatian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation to attend SPIEF 2018.

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum will take place in St. Petersburg on 24–26 May.
