Officials Meet in Moscow to Discuss Egypt’s Preparations for Participation in SPIEF 2022

Adviser to the Russian President Anton Kobyakov met with Egyptian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Russian Federation Ihab Talaat Nasr in Moscow to discuss, among other things, preparations for Egypt’s participation in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum and the RussiaAfrica Summit.

“In recent years, relations between our countries strengthened significantly in all key areas. Our integrated collaboration is successfully developing in accordance with the Treaty on Comprehensive Partnership and Strategic Cooperation, which was signed by the leaders of our states and took effect in January this year. Trade and economic ties are developing steadily. Bilateral trade is gradually recovering after a decline in 2020 due to the pandemic,” Kobyakov said.

Egypt will have the honorary status of a guest country at the 25th anniversary of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. This status involves the organization of a whole range of events both within the business and cultural programmes.

“Egypt’s participation in the SPIEF as a guest country will help to fully unleash the economic potential of cooperation for the international community and present [Egypt] as a tourist destination as well as its culture. For many countries, Egypt can serve as an entry point to the African continent and the Arab world and a reliable partner for the implementation of projects in various sectors of the economy and culture,” Kobyakov said.

In February 2022, the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum will organize a visiting business session in Cairo that will be attended by representatives of the Russian and Egyptian business communities.

“Egypt’s upcoming full-fledged participation as a guest country at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum will further strengthen Russian-Egyptian cooperation in many areas. During the SPIEF, we want to show the breakthrough that has occurred in relations between Russia and Egypt in terms of economic cooperation and, given the international scale of the event, also present opportunities for bilateral interaction with other countries. In the near future, with the Embassy’s support, a working group will be created to prepare for Egypt’s participation in the SPIEF,” Nasr said.

Kobyakov and Nasr discussed preparations for the Second Russia–Africa Summit, which is due to take place in autumn 2022, including Egypt’s active involvement in preparations for and the shaping of the content of the event.
