Moscow Hosts Discussion on Strengthening Comprehensive Russian-Egyptian Cooperation

Moscow was host to a meeting between Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation Anton Kobyakov and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Russian Federation Nazih el‑Nagari. During the meeting, the parties discussed the development of trade and economic cooperation, the organization of joint events in Russia and Egypt, and Egypt's participation in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2022, where they will serve as guest country of honour.

Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation Anton Kobyakov congratulated Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Russian Federation Nazih el‑Nagari on his new post and noted the strengthening multilateral strategic cooperation between the two countries: “Relations between our countries have continued to develop rapidly over the past few years across a wide range of areas. We have a rich history of successful joint projects, based on friendship and trust. Heads of ministries and agencies in Russia and Egypt are engaged in intensive dialogues with each other. The unique nature of Russian-Egyptian ties is exemplified during the global fight against the pandemic. I would also like to point out the Russia-Egypt Year of Humanitarian Cooperation that began in Cairo in June 2021. Over two hundred joint events – an unprecedented number – are expected to be held throughout the year”.

A key joint project is the creation of a Russian industrial zone in Egypt. Two weeks ago, this project's role as a unique milestone in Russian-African relations was highlighted during Russia Forum: Driving the Future at Expo 2020 Dubai.

Another topic of discussion at the meeting was Egypt's participation in the jubilee 25th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which will be held on 15–18 June 2022.

“It is a great honour to be invited to be the guest country of honour at SPIEF 2022. This participation format will further strengthen Russian-Egyptian cooperation across all industries and showcase our investment and tourism potential. At the moment, we and the organizers are developing a number of events for both the business and cultural programmes,” said Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Russian Federation Nazih el-Nagari.

Other successful joint events included the Russia–Africa Summit, which was held in Sochi in October 2019. Preparations are currently underway for the second Russia–Africa Summit, which is expected to be held in autumn of 2022.
