Hungarian delegation to attend SPIEF 2017
Russian Presidential Adviser Anton Kobyakov and Hungarian Ambassador to Russia Janos Balla held a meeting in Moscow that focused on cooperation within the context of major political and economic multilateral events that are scheduled to be held in Russia in 2017 with the participation of the Russian president.
Kobyakov noted that Russian–Hungarian relations are developing progressively. “For us, Hungary is an important and reliable partner in Europe. Russian–Hungarian relations are based on principles of pragmatism, equality, respect for one another and the mutual consideration of interests. A regular political dialogue has been established between our countries and active steps are being taken to maintain and search for ways to revive trade, economic and investment ties”, he said.
During the meeting, Ambassador Balla confirmed that Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Co-Chairman of the Russian–Hungarian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation Peter Szijjarto is ready to attend the upcoming St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (June 1–3, 2017, St. Petersburg). In addition, the parties discussed the possibility of signing an agreement on development between the Roscongress Foundation and the Hungarian state organization responsible for the country’s foreign economic development as part of the programme for a Hungarian delegation’s participation in SPIEF 2017.
It was mutually noted that the site of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) presents exceptionally favourable conditions for the practical establishment of business ties and a substantive discussion of topical issues involving cooperation on a broad range of industries.
The Forum schedule includes traditional panel sessions devoted to EU development issues, the evolution of Eurasian integration and the establishment of a broad partnership within the Eurasian space.
Kobyakov expressed hope that Hungarian business and political groups would be broadly represented at the SPIEF 2017 events. He also invited his Hungarian partners to take part in the Eastern Economic Forum (September 6–7, 2017, Vladivostok) and the Russian Investment Forum in Sochi (February–March 2018).
The meeting participants discussed the possibility of holding a targeted event in a roundtable format within the framework of these forums concerning investment issues with a focus on the energy sector and agriculture with the participation of governors from Russia’s regions and high-ranking Hungarian officials.
