Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin invites Cuban delegation to SPIEF 2017

On December 8, 2016, the fourteenth session of the Russian–Cuban Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation took place in Havana.

The Russian delegation was headed by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Rogozin, and the Cuban delegation was led by Vice President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Economy and Planning of the Republic of Cuba Ricardo Cabrisas.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the current state of bilateral cooperation in industry and prospects for further development, including in the metallurgy, transport, special machine construction, aviation, and military and technical cooperation sectors. The parties expressed interest in expanding industrial cooperation in existing areas and in implementing bilateral projects in new areas, such as the regeneration and development of Cuba’s citrus industry.

Deputy Minister Alexander Potapov represented the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation at the event. In his presentation, Mr. Potapov noted that KAMAZ and rolling stock manufacturer RM Rail were actively working in Cuba, and welcomed the move to begin trialling two AVTOVAZ vehicles for use as taxis in Havana, as well as the interest in participation by Russian companies in Cuba’s railway modernization project.

Mr. Rogozin invited the Cuban delegation to attend the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which will take place on June 1–3, 2017.
