Giving a Second Life: Items from the National Pavilion of Qatar Delegation will Take Part in the Heritage Program

On June 5, 2021, the Qatar Legacy Handover Ceremony was held during the SPEIF 2021. The ceremony was attended by His Excellency Sheikh Ahmed bin Nasser Al Thani, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Russian Federation, Mr. Rashid bin Majid Awad Al Suwaidi, First Secretary Counselor of the Embassy of the State of Qatar in the Russian Federation, Alexander Stuglev, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of the Roscongress Foundation, Diana Charmadova, General, Director of the Qatari-Russian Center for Cooperation (QRCC).

The atmosphere of the Qatar Pavilion is based on and inspired by a typical Arab city with streets and a central square. At the entrance to the pavilion, guests were welcomed by the Majlis of Qatar - a traditional zone of hospitality and the first spot of acquaintance with Qatar.  Guests were indulged in Qatar’s hospitality and treated with delicious Arabic coffee, had an opportunity to see a miniature of the main pavilion of the country and get acquainted with the organizer of Qatar's participation in the SPIEF - the Qatar-Russian Cooperation Center (QRCC).

The entire pavilion was united by a large-scale suspended installation: a translucent structure made of ephemeral rattan mesh in the form of arcades, volumetric walls and oriental arches creates a stunning image that refers to the authentic architecture of Qatar. This solution organically forms and zones the volumes of functional spaces, as well as symbolizes the connection between the past and the present of Qatar.

The main business area of the Qatar Pavilion was divided into two parts. The first zone contains the stands of the Qatari participating companies. Each stand had its own unique design, reflecting the authentic features of each of the companies. Another zone - Doha Hall - a discussion venue, where heads of ministries and departments, heads of key companies in the country, representatives of the expert community discussed strengthening of economic and political relations between countries, building business and cultural ties, cooperation in the field of ecology and nature protection.

It is fundamentally essential for the Delegation of Qatar that the material component of the Pavilion after the closure of SPIEF-2021 will find a "second life". Therefore, within the framework of the Heritage Program, the material resources of the pavilion (pieces of furniture and plants) were donated and distributed to Russian universities, libraries and museums.

Strategically, the succession approach of the program is in line with national and international goals, such as the Qatar National Vision 2030, and the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations General Assembly and that have to be achieved by 2030.

The Heritage Program of Qatar's participation in SPIEF includes partnership agreements with leading educational and cultural institutions of St. Petersburg and other regions of Russia. Educational and cultural projects within the framework of the Heritage program are created in joined affords with the HSE University (branch in St. Petersburg), the State Museum of Sports, Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, St. Petersburg State University, Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (the Kunstkamera), the St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics (ITMO University), The Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) and Institute of Ecology and Sustainable Development, Dagestan State University.

As a reminder, Qatar participated in SPIEF 2021 as a Guest Country. The Qatar National Pavilion, deployed for the SPIEF, presented the economic potential of the Middle East country to the highest extend. The Qatari delegation has become one of the most numerous in the history of its participation in international economic events and brought together high-ranking officials, politicians, business representatives, heads of authorities and public organizations.
