SPIEF regional session series ‘Russia’s Regions: New Areas of Growth’ to continue in Yaroslavl

SPIEF regional session series ‘Russia’s Regions: New Areas of Growth’ to continue in Yaroslavl

On December 6, 2016, Yaroslavl will host a regional session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) as part of the ‘Russia’s Regions: New Areas of Growth’ series. The event is being organized by the Roscongress Foundation jointly with the Russian Export Center and the Agency for Strategic Initiatives.

The central theme for discussion will be attracting investment into the real economy. Various institutions and tools have been established in recent years in Russia to support the development of industry through attracting financing, finding and implementing technological solutions, and assisting in the identification of sales markets within Russia and abroad. Those invited to participate in the event include Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Central Federal District Alexander Beglov, Acting Governor of Yaroslavl Region Dmitry Mironov, CEO of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives Andrey Nikitin, and CEO of the Russian Export Center Petr Fradkov, as well as business representatives, leading Russian experts in the field of investment, civic representatives, and media.

The upcoming SPIEF session in Yaroslavl will be the first in a new series of presentations organized by SPIEF in Russia’s regions. This new format, developed last year with the aim of finding and developing regional projects with investment and export potential, has already proved a success. “In future, the plan is to expand the geographical coverage of the sessions to new regions,” explained Anton Kobyakov, Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation and Executive Secretary of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum Organizing Committee. The 'Russia's Regions: New Areas of Growth' project has earned recognition beyond the business world. This summer, the Roscongress Foundation was named the winner of the Russian Public Relations Association (RASO) PR award for implementing the project, in the ‘Investment growth in Russia’ category.

“The events in the 'Russia's Regions: New Areas of Growth' series which we held prior to SPIEF 2016 made it possible not only to focus the attention of regional businesses and authorities on issues of attracting investment, but also to raise the topic of export growth, which is so relevant today. I am confident that this year we will be able to talk about opportunities for increasing exports to a whole range of regions, and to invite many export-orientated companies to the Forum in St. Petersburg,” said Petr Fradkov, CEO of the Russian Export Center.

“The Yaroslavl Region Governor’s team has clear aims with regard to improving the investment climate. The ASI is ready to provide the tools necessary for these to be achieved. One of the first objectives is to hold a regional SPIEF session with the participation of Russian and international investors alongside leading development institutions. I’m certain that Yaroslavl Region will not only host this event to the highest standard, but will also make maximum use of its potential to provide benefits to the region,” said Marina Korotaeva, representative of the CEO of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives.

Participants at the session will also learn about the different forms of participation in the 21st St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (June 1–3, 2017), also discussing improvements to the investment climate in the region, as well as how to find potential investors and enter new markets.

The event will also include a briefing session from the Russian Export Center on the development of its export support system, and on the financial and non-financial tools provided by the Center.

Regional SPIEF sessions have been taking place under the ‘Russia’s Regions: New Areas of Growth’ banner since December 2015. Events have previously been held in a Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg, Krasnodar, and Tula.
