He was born on February 13, 1968 in a village Namtsy of the Verkhnevilyuisk district of the Yakut Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic.
In 1994, he graduated with honors from the faculty of Biology and Geography of the M.K. Ammosov Yakutsk State University as a teacher of biology and chemistry.
1995-1996 - Assistant of the Department of Botany of M.K. Ammosov YSU’s Biology and Geography Faculty.
In 1999, he defended his thesis in the dissertation council of the Sukachev Institute of Forest, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Krasnoyarsk) on topic "The influence of climate on the spatial and temporal variability of the radial growth of conifers in northern and central Yakutia".
1999-2001 - Researcher of the group of forest studies of the Institute of Biological Problems of Cryolithozone, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
2001-2011 - Senior Researcher, P.I. Melnikov Institute of Permafrost, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
2011-2013 - Dean of the M.K. Ammosov NEFU Biology and Geography Faculty.
In 2011, he defended his doctoral thesis on topic "Dendrochronological analysis of natural processes in the cryolithozone (on the example of Central Yakutia)".
Since 2013 - Director of NEFU Institute of Natural Sciences.

Evgeniy Stanislavovich Szhenov is the Science Director of the analytical center "Scientific and Educational Policy" and a leading expert with the Institute of Education at the National Research University and the Higher School of Economics.

For more than 10 years he has been a consultant to the Presidential Administration, the government of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Education and Science, and numerous other federal executives, heads of regions, rectors of leading universities in Russia in the field of education management.

Evgeniy is an organiser and moderator of key forum events in recent years in the field of higher education and science.
