There was a Quiet Revolution in artificial intelligence in 2023. An exciting new age has now begun with big changes on the way for access to information, content creation, customer satisfaction, and how businesses are run. The global transition to artificial intelligence will enter a critical phase of development in 2024. Widespread interest stems from the great array of possible applications across industries and business functions. Russia has managed to develop and implement AI very successfully, and the Russian Government has approved a National AI Development Strategy. In the ensuing technological race, the emphasis is on increasing computing power and strengthening the country’s human resources and scientific potential. 95% of Russian organizations are expected to be actively using AI by 2030. How should the government encourage all sectors to adopt AI in 2025? How does artificial intelligence affect big business? Why are Russian AI specialists moving abroad, and what can we do to build up our human resources? What products will Russian developers use to turn the AI market upside down in the next few years? Should we be investing in technology or in science? How should we proceed with the development of our own AI in the absence of a mechanism for sharing data?

1993: Co-founded MediaArts, one of Russia’s largest communication holdings, specialising in advertising and sports marketing in Russia, and managed it for 12 years;
2005 to 2007: General Director of the Sochi 2014 Bid Committee;
2007 to 2014: President of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Organising Committee and the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Organising Committee;
2014 to 2020: President and Executive Board Chairman of the Kontinental Hockey League;
2015 to 2020: Chief Executive Officer of Gazprom-Media Holding;
21 January 2020: Appointed Deputy Prime Minister by presidential executive order;
Awarded the Order for Services to the Fatherland, 2nd Class, the Order of Friendship, the Order of Honour, the Order of St Sergius of Radonezh, 2nd and 3rd Class, and the Golden Olympic Order;

Vladimir Vasiliev

Rector, ITMO National Research University

Dr. Vladimir Vasilyev (born on April 1, 1951) has been the Rector of ITMO University since 1996 when the Conference of University Employees elected Dr. Vladimir Vasilyev as ITMO University Rector for the five-year term. He's been reelected four times, in 2001, 2006, 2011 and 2016. He is an active corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Russian Academy of Education. He’s been the head of the Council of St. Petersburg Rectors since 2004, vice president of the All-Russian Council of Rectors, and a member of the St. Petersburg Governor's Technical Council.
After graduating from the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute, in 1983, Dr. Vasilyev joined the Leningrad Institute of Fine Mechanics and Optics, which later became ITMO University. In 1991 he became the head of the new department of Information Technologies. His leadership style and vision for innovation, multidisciplinary approach and the importance of partnerships with the industry earned him a prominent position within the university and the scientific community in Russia and beyond. In his capacity as the Rector, he continues to promote those values through creating a unique environment for cutting edge research, international collaboration and education for the modern world.
Dr. Vasilyev is a prominent scientist in the fields of computer telecommunications and mathematical modeling of information systems and multifunctional equipment complexes. He is one of the creators of Russia’s joint scientific educational information environment and the “Electronic Russia” program. Dr. Vasilyev is a recipient of several prestigious awards, including the 2003 and 2005 President of the Russian Federation Award for Excellence in Education and the 2000 and 2008 Government of the Russian Federation Award for Excellence in Education. He is the Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation (2002), Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the Russian Federation (2010), and the recipient of Golden Medal of the Russian Academy of Education “For Scientific Achievements” (2011).

Kirill Dmitriev

Chief Executive Officer, Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF)

Prior to becoming CEO of RDIF in 2011, Kirill Dmitriev headed a number of large private equity funds and completed a series of landmark transactions, including the sale of Delta Bank to General Electric, Delta Credit Bank to Société Générale, STS Media to Fidelity Investments, etc. At the beginning of his career he worked at Goldman Sachs and McKinsey & Company. He is Deputy Chairman of the Investment Council under the Chairman of the State Duma of Russia, Vice President of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs and was appointed by the President of Russia as a member of the BRICS and the APEC business councils; he also was selected as ‘Young Global Leader’ by the World Economic Forum. He serves as a member of the boards of directors of Rostelecom, Gazprombank, MDMG, Russian Railways and a member of the boards of trustees of the Mariinsky Theatre and Moscow State University.
In 2011 he was the only Russian representative in the list of ‘100 most influential private equity professionals of the decade’ (Private Equity International). He holds a BA in Economics with Honors and Distinction from Stanford University and an MBA with High Distinction (Baker Scholar) from the Harvard Business School.

Alexander Krainov

Director for Development of Artificial Intelligence Technologies, Yandex

Head of the Machine Intelligence Laboratory, Yandex, in charge of Pilot Products and AI Technologies Sector.
Before that, for nine years, he headed the development of computer-enabled vision products and algorithms at Yandex.
Before Yandex, he worked at SPIRIT DSP and its subsidiary SeeStorm in the position of Product Director. He was engaged in the development of audio and video compression and transmission algorithms, speech recognition, video conferencing technologies, computer-enabled vision and 3D modelling.
He worked in Port.Ru, one of the Russian Internet pioneers, where he created a cataloguing system for Russia’s first online marketplace.
The first job was a temporary scientific team Supermatrix, where he was engaged in computer-aided design of the topology of superconducting matrices.
He graduated from MIREA (Russian Technological University).
Party to the development of a national strategy for AI development.

Ivan Oseledets

Professor Ivan Oseledets is the second most cited Russian mathematician and is among the top world citations. His work received international recognition and was included in the fourth edition of Golub and Van Loan's classic textbook on matrix analysis.
At AIRI Ivan leads a research team of 160 scientists and teaches at Skoltech as a professor. He is an author of more than 200 articles in leading international and Russian journals. He has trained 16 candidates of sciences and is a member of the editorial boards of international journals and conferences: Adv Comp Math, SIAM J. Sci. Comput., Area Chair NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR.
Ivan is a laureate of the Russian Presidential Prize in the field of science and innovation for young scientists, a laureate of the SIAM Outstanding paper prize, the Segalovich Prize (Yandex ML Prize), and the Humboldt Foundation Science Prize.
In 2022, Ivan received the title of professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Ivan actively collaborates with leading researchers around the world and has more than 70 co-authors, including professors from ETH and MIT.
