Veronika Skvortsova was born in Moscow on November 1, 1960.
She graduated from the 2nd Pirogov Moscow State Medical Institute in 1983 and completed a Postgraduate Clinical Residency Programme and an Advanced Postgraduate Programme specializing in neuropathology. In 1994, she qualified as a higher category neurologist.
After graduating, she worked for the 2nd Moscow State Medical Institute (the Russian State Medical University since 1991) for 25 years.
Veronika Skvortsova became head of one of Russia’s first neurology emergency services at Moscow’s 1st municipal hospital established on the basis of the neurology clinic of the 2nd Moscow State Medical Institute in 1989.
In 1989–1995, she served as assistant and, in 1995–1997, as assistant professor at the Neuropathology Department of the Russian State Medical University.
She became Head of the Fundamental and Clinical Neurology and Neurosurgery Department in 1997.
Veronika Skvortsova was appointed Director of the Russian Stroke Research Institute in 2005.
She was Deputy Minister of Healthcare and Social Development from 2008 to 2012.
Veronika Skvortsova was appointed Minister of Healthcare by Presidential Executive Order No. 650 of May 21, 2012.
She is vice-president and co-founder of the National Stroke Association, director of the World Stroke Organization and secretary general of the European Stroke Council.
She is a Doctor of Medicine, Professor, and Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences.
Veronika Skvortsova is an Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation.
She has been awarded an Order of Honour and won the Pirogov Prize and Moscow Government Prize in Medicine.
She is the author of more than 400 research papers and holds seven patents for her inventions.

Vsevolod Belousov

Born on February 19, 1975 in Nalchik, KBR.
Graduated from the Faculty of Biology, Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1998.
D. in Biology (2013), Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Head of the Department of Metabolism and Redox Biology of the Institute of Biochemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor at the University of Göttingen.
Vsevolod Belousov is a scientist known in Russia and worldwide, a specialist in synthetic biology, molecular neurotechnology, and biomedicine. Biosensor and bioengineering technologies developed by Vsevolod Belousov are used by hundreds of laboratories worldwide. One of the main areas of Belousov's research is thermogenetics: controlling the activity of neurons and other cells by means of temperature-sensitive ion channels. Thermogenetic technologies are being developed to activate the brain, heart and pancreas. Another area of research is metabolic engineering - creation of artificial metabolic pathways in cells. For the development of technology to manage oxidative stress at the subcellular level and its application to study the mechanisms of heart failure, Vsevolod Belousov was awarded the Discovery Award-2019 by the Society for Redox Biology and Medicine in the USA.
Since 2019, Vsevolod Belousov has headed the Federal Brain and Neurotechnology Center of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency of Russia, a flagship scientific-clinical center that conducts research on pathologies of the nervous system and provides high-tech medical care in the profiles of neurology, neurorehabilitation, and neurosurgery. In the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Center was converted to an infectious disease hospital to treat patients with the new coronavirus infection. Vsevolod Belousov was awarded the Silver Cross of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency of Russia for successful organization of the clinic's work during the pandemic.

Maria Lagarkova, born on 26 November 1966, graduated from the Biology Department of Lomonosov Moscow State University. She is an expert in the field of stem cell biology, epigenetics, molecular biology, author of more than 200 scientific papers and 8 patents (h-index = 25). Ms. Lagarkova’s research results have been published in journals such as Nature Biotechnology, Immunity, PNAS, and others.

Main scientific accomplishments of Maria Lagarkova include:
An extensive collection of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) from patients with hereditary diseases was obtained by methods of genetic reprogramming. Banks of human pluripotent stem cell lines (iPSCs and ESCs) were created. Epigenetic differences in human ESC lines were shown for the first time.
A biotechnological platform for directed differentiation of pluripotent cells into specialized cell types was developed.
Cellular models of neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease, Huntington's chorea, spinocerebellar ataxias were created on the basis of iPSCs, which allowed obtaining new information on the molecular mechanisms of these diseases.
The theoretical and experimental basis for the future application of pluripotent stem cells for regenerative medicine and drug screening has been established.
Intercellular interactions in the development of malignant tumors (intercellular communications in the formation of resistance to chemotherapy and tumor-stroma interactions) and the creation of therapeutic vaccines against malignant tumors are also areas of interest.

Sergei Lukyanov

Sergey Lukyanov graduated from Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1985, majoring in Physiology. In 1986, started working at the Shemyakin and Ovchinnikov Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, rising in the ranks from Research Assistant to Head of Laboratory.
In 1994, he successfully defended his PhD dissertation ‘Cloning of a novel Xenopus homeobox gene XANF-1 by subtractive hybridization,’ which he completed at the Laboratory of Structure and Function of Human Genes under the supervision of Prof. Eugene D. Sverdlov. In 1999, he successfully defended his doctoral (DrSc) disseration ‘Selective suppression of polymerase chain reaction’ at the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, advised by Prof. Eugene D. Sverdlov.
In 2003, he became a Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Science and became a full Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2011.
In 2010–2014, he received a mega grant from the Russian Government to create a fluorescent bio-imaging laboratory at Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy (now Privolzhsky Research Medical University). This laboratory became the foundation of the NNSMA Biomedical Technology Research Institute. In 2012–2013, served as Acting Assistant to the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation. In 2013–2015, was the Vice Rector of the Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University (RNRMU). He became Acting Rector on 29 April 2015 and was elected the Rector of RNRMU in 2016.
Over the course of his work, Lukyanov published more than 180 research papers in Russian and foreign journals (with an h-index of 58 and a ‘sum of times cited’ over 18,000 according to Web of Science) and patented 51 inventions.
In 2006, he was awared the Russian Academy of Sciences Ovchinnikov Prize for outstanding work in physicochemical biology and biotechnology for his paper ‘Fluorescent proteins: finding, investigation and use in biotechnology.’ In 2012, he was awarded the RUSNANOPRIZE Nanotechnology International Prize. In 2015, he was conferred the Russian Federation National Award in science and technology for the development and implementation of a technological complex for the analysis of compound genome structure and functions.

Vladimir Chekhonin, born 1959.
1975-1981 studied and graduated from the Therapeutic faculty of Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University. In 1984 received a PhD (Candidate of Sciences Degree) the Biochemistry Department of the same University.
My career at the Pirogov University began with the position of junior fellow at the
Problem Laboratory for Immunochemistry of Malignant and Embryonic Tissues at the Biochemistry Department.
Since 1986 my work has been connected with the Serbsky State Scientific Center for Social and Forensic Psychiatry. At the Center, I worked as senior fellow, leading the immunochemistry group and Head of the Immunochemistry Lab. Currently working as Director of the Department of Fundamental and Applied Neurobiology at the Serbsky Center.
In 1989 I received a Doctoral Degree (Doctor of Sciences) in Biochemistry. Graduated from the International school of Neuroscience (Padova, Italy) in 1992. In 1993 I was awarded the title of Professor of Biochemistry by the Higher Attestation Commission of Russia.
Elected corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences in 2002, became full member in 2005. Since 2011 – Secretary Academician of the Medical and Biological Department of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences.
In 2008 founded the Department of Medical Nanobiotechnologies at the Russian State Medical University.
Since 2013 – member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and member of the RAS Presidium.
Elected Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2017.
Over 350 research publications, including 23 inventions and patents in Russia and 7 monographs published in Russia and abroad.

Alexei Ossadtchi is a leading Russian scientist in the field of Neuroimaging. He is currently a Professor and Director of the Center for Bioelectric Interfaces at the National Research University Higher School of Economics. Dr. Ossadtchi holds a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California (2003), where he developed approaches for automatic identification of epileptogenic regions in multi-focal epilepsy. These methods are being applied to non-invasively collected magnetoencephalographic (MEG) data for improved diagnostic accuracy of patients with epilepsy. Dr. Ossadtchi continued this research in Russia and developed efficient solutions to the interpretation of MEG and electroencephalography (EEG) based neuroimaging in the clinical context. His recent developments include algorithmic techniques for solving the EEG and MEG inverse problem on the group level, novel robust analytical solutions improving the spatial resolution of MEG based neuroimaging, and providing access to the detection of functional coupling of neuronal sources. He is also the key inventor of BASEX, a now classical Abel-transform method widely used for solving the inverse problem in photo-ion and photo-electron imaging. Dr. Ossadtchi authored more than thirty publications in high-impact international journals specialized in methods for functional neuroimaging and their real-time applications, such as BCIs and neurofeedback. In addition to academic background, Dr. Ossadtchi has extensive business experience. He was a Senior Scientist for twelve years at Source Signal Imaging Inc., San Diego, CA, where he developed the EMSE Software Suite, a versatile data analysis tool for multimodal neuroimaging.
