SME Development Trends in Russia and India: Ensuring Sustainable Growth

05 Jun , 12:15–13:45
Day of International SME Cooperation
Congress Centre, zone D, conference hall D4

In today’s world, small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) drive economic growth and innovation. Unconstrained by multi-level management systems, SMEs are responsive to market changes, quickly adapt and innovate ahead of big business. In Russia and India, thanks to concerted efforts by governments at all levels, the SME sector is actively growing, catalysing positive change. Despite positive trends, the entry of SMEs into international markets is associated with a number of challenges, including high trade duties and non-tariff barriers, lack of information about foreign markets, difficulties in finding reliable partners and financing international activities. Interregional cooperation between Russia and India can help remove these obstacles by simplifying trade procedures, sharing market intelligence, and establishing joint ventures that will facilitate entry into new markets. In addition, an important component is the organization of educational and advisory programmes that offer a broader perspective on the specifics of doing business in the international arena and allow them to learn about possible financing programmes for their projects. To what extent can interregional trade agreements between Russia and India contribute to the sustainable development of the economies of both countries? What financing instruments and mechanisms are available to SMEs? What business models can be most successful in entering regional markets in the context of Russia–India cooperation?
