Guest Country – Qatar

The State of Qatar is participating in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2021 as a Guest Country. The Qatari delegation will include over 50 high-profile organizations, comprising leading private and public sectors entities, and is expected to be amongst the largest business delegations to ever represent the State at global events.

Qatar and Russia have enjoyed thriving bilateral relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1988, with Qatar being the largest investor in the Russian economy amongst Arab nations. The Gulf State's honorary position at the forum as a Guest Country demonstrates the steadfast dedication and commitment of both countries to further cement their existing cross-border economic, cultural and tourism cooperation.

Considerable trade and diplomatic dialogues, culminating with a trade treaty in 2007, have paved the way for Qatar to become the 7th largest source of FDI inflows in Russia in 2019 and a dynamic domestic business hub to more than 50 jointly Qatari-Russian owned companies operating in the country, powered by Invest Qatar’s global investment vision.

On a cultural front, the Qatar-Russia International Year of Culture was held in 2018 on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. This International Year of Culture was a first such celebration of the Russian heritage in the Gulf and served to commemorate the unique histories and traditions of both countries.

Under the leadership of His Highness, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, the country - which is named the host of the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022 and the Asian Games 2030 - aims to further enhance its existing economic, investment, technological, and sports potential with key Russian stakeholders through SPIEF.
