Preventive Medicine: Prevention or Treatment?

05 Jun , 16:45–18:15
‘Ensuring Drug Security’ Russian Pharmaceutical Forum
Congress Centre, zone B, 2nd floor, conference hall B4

Preventive medicine is a new healthcare paradigm based on preventing diseases and maintaining active longevity. Measures for the early detection of diseases and the risk factors that cause them, predicting the onset of serious health problems long before their first signs appear, personalized health support programmes, and lifestyle adjustments to strengthen healthy habits are all basic aspects of a preventive approach that aims to improve people’s quality of life and extend healthy life expectancy. An integrated approach is applied in modern clinical preventive practices based on the use of both medicinal and scientifically proven non-medicinal methods of disease prevention. New technologies to prevent the development of dangerous age-related diseases and promote health, which are based on an individual approach and the principle of understanding the body as an integral system, help to preserve its functional state for the long term, prevent the onset of diseases or delay it as much as possible, and increase life expectancy. Preventive medicine is a sound economic investment that makes it possible to provide medical care well in advance, which can reduce the need for more costly treatment later. What achievements in preventive medicine and innovative diagnostics are protecting people’s health today? How is the transition to preventive medicine impacting the drug market? How ready are the professional and patient communities, the government, and the pharmaceutical business today for the transition to a preventive healthcare model?
