Roscongress Foundation to act as operator of 19th World Festival of Youth and Students

The Organizing Committee of the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students held their first meeting in Moscow on February 8, 2017. Participants in the meeting included representatives of federal government bodies, relevant ministries and departments; regional governors; heads of state corporations and media organizations; and rectors of leading Russian higher education institutions.

The committee considered organizational issues related to running the Festival, and discussed a preparatory plan and roadmap for the event. Roscongress Foundation was selected as operator to prepare and run the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students in 2017.

“The Roscongress Foundation has substantial experience in running public events and large-scale international and multilateral events at the highest level, both in Russia and abroad. It has at its disposal the necessary organizational and technical resources to run an event of such national importance,” said advisor to the President of the Russian Federation Anton Kobyakov at the meeting.

“The Festival’s target audience includes future global leaders in politics, business, science, the social sphere, and those who simply play an active role in public life from over 150 countries around the world. We will not only bring these people together at a single venue, but through the use of an integrated communications platform. Essentially, this will be a social network for the Festival, which will provide an excellent opportunity to maintain links with the participants, even after the actual event. The communications system, which is being used by the Roscongress Foundation to organize and automate work related to participant relations, makes this possible. We have consolidated all of the resources from government agencies responsible for promoting Russia’s interests abroad,” said Roscongress Foundation CEO Alexander Stuglev.

On January 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the decree “On the preparation and running of 19th World Festival of Youth and Students”.

The WFYS 2017 Organizing Committee was put together to prepare and run the festival. Sergey Kirienko, First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office, was appointed Chairman of the Committee. Among the deputy chairmen are Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Mutko, Aide to the President of the Russian Federation Andrei Fursenko, and Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation Anton Kobyakov.

The festival will take place on October 14–22, 2017, with the main events taking place at the Sochi Olympic Park. Over 20,000 young people from 150 countries will participate.
