The first regatta dedicated to outstanding people in sailing to be held as part of SPIEF 2024
A regatta named after Igor Chentsov, Chairman of the Presidium and First Vice President of the Russian Yachting Federation, has been included in the sports programme of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum and will be held from 30 May to 2 June 2024.
“Organizing tournaments to honour deserving individuals who have played a significant role in the development of their sport is a good initiative and an important tool for preserving traditions. Allow me to illustrate with an example from wrestling: the Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix has served as a launching pad for all future Olympic champions from Russia and remains instrumental in uncovering new talents, both domestic and foreign. For the sport of sailing, I hope that the Igor Chentsov Regatta, named after a figure who was the soul and engine of his sport, will elevate domestic competition to new heights and contribute to strengthening international cooperation,” said Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation.
The Igor Chentsov Regatta will open the season of the Tenzor International Cup, which will be dedicated to the memory of outstanding people in sailing.
The project is supported by the All-Russian Sailing Federation, Roscongress Foundation and Centre for Athletic Training of Russian National Teams.
“This tournament annually gathers the elite of the sailing community to its regattas, as it is the largest sporting competition in the national MX700 class with the highest number of professional sailors participating,” noted Sergey Dzhienbaev, President of the Russian Yachting Federation.
The series calendar for the 2024 season includes four rounds to be held from June to November at the main locations of the Tenzor Sailing Club in Pestovo near Moscow and Sochi.
