Russian Minister of Energy invites Algerian delegation to attend SPIEF 2019

The Joint Intergovernmental Russian-Algerian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation held its 9th meeting in Moscow under the co-chairmanship of Russian Minister of Energy Alexander Novak and Algerian Minister of Finance Abderrahmane Raouia.

At the meeting, the parties reviewed a number of issues concerning bilateral trade and economic cooperation, discussed further plans and future projects between the two countries, and identified new areas of cooperation.

Algeria is one of Russia’s most important partners on the African continent. One of their main areas of cooperation is energy.

“Through their joint efforts, the two countries have created an impressive groundwork for the implementation of a strategic partnership. We continue to develop our cooperation in the pharmaceutical, medical, oil and gas, industrial supply, and agriculture sectors. We discussed the possibility of building a plant for the production of construction materials in Algeria as well as the supply of metallurgical pipe products. Cybersecurity has become a new focus in our cooperation”, Novak said.

In addition, the parties agreed to focus on diversifying and increasing the volume of trade in civilian products as well as on the implementation of long-term projects, including in high-tech sectors. Novak said these areas would significantly increase the volume of investment and trade between the two countries.

At the end of the meeting, Novak invited the Algerian delegation to take part in the 23rd St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which will be held on 6–8 June 2019 at the ExpoForum Convention and Exhibition Centre in St. Petersburg.
